Iiiiiinteresting.

What were the first session songs again? I remember them being the better ones, but that was before we heard everything.

they're still close to what they once were...
Let it Ride
Cold Confession
My Fathers Son
Pendulum
Of the Earth
but now they have someone they didnt listen to in the past
pushing them to put shit like LTRP and SBM on the record when you know
there are other great songs they could hav put on but didn't because of this douche.
It's frustrating to hear something like pendulum and only be able to wonder what this album could have been
like if only Jeff and Stone wrote the songs and decided the tracklisting...bah!
I like 10 of 12 one of which, FD, is listenable but barely

How are people reading that article? And what, they didn't want the album to sound too polished? What?

fair enough. There's a level of conviction and emotion in a song like 'All or None' that hadn't been touched much at all sense. Most of the emotion in PJ's ballads and deeper songs the last 3 album has come across as forced and inauthentic. They lyrics and sentiment might read great on paper, but when it hits my ears, I isually cringe.

So overall this is a poor, dull record. I am not disappointed, as far as I'm concerned PJ stopped trying with their music after Riot Act failed to find the audience it deserved.

I really like Yellow Moon, and I enjoy Swallowed Whole. The fact Pendulum will take me a few more listens (in a good way) is good.

Aside from these three the rest are terrible, or (in some ways worse) forgettable. It's too often their either treading formerly crossed paths or they are pandering to the fanbase or a pop music crowd.

Infallible - such potential, but ruined by a poppy vocal line.
Getaway - It's just You with a Jeremy vocal line and lyrics referring to the negative Backspacer backlash. Face it guys - it's a kightweight and throwaway record.
MYM - "let's RAWK guys, as socialists!"
Sirens - PJ attempts a Nickelback-esque singalong
Future Days - self invovled sycophantic drivel
Lightning Bolt - Unthought Known style grandoise with major chords and urgency
Sleeping By Myself /LTRP - PJ goes country/ blues to appease refusing to tour for the confederacy on political grounds
My Father's Son - As said before - it's unfinished ideas for songs amalgamated with no flow and no coherence. When it finishes you feel like you've just listened to 3/4 unfinished brainfart ideas, just like Johnny Guitar. And the chorus sounds like Arms Aloft.

As much as I dislike the song I don't believe that is what they were attempting.

I always laugh at random placements of the word "Socialists".

With all of the discussion about who controls the means of production throughout the lyrics, how else would you describe MYM?

I feel bad for Boom. I mean do they tell him to leave so they can take pictures? Does he stand awkwardly on the side while they all smile and pretend he's not there?

Yeah, the whole Boom thing is a mess. I used to like a good Boom joke as much as the next guy, but not really now. He's like an old hairy tribal friend, and BoB is... not.

The fact that LB is the first time this hasn't happened tells me something.
For me, it's the first time I haven't felt the need to go back to at least one song and play it over and over again. All of the albums up to Riot Act were 80-90% songs like that for me. This is the first time there are NO songs like that. Not trying to be dramatic, but it really does seem like it's over.
