Have started Wild, «A chronicle of one woman's 1,100-mile solo hike undertaken as a way to recover from a recent personal tragedy» starring Reese Witherspoon. Won’t finish today

Will watch Calvary afterwards, which will be the last 2014 movie on this run, before I move on to movies from 2015.

I am about to go watch John Wick 4 despite not having seen any of the previous John Wicks. Somebody give me a 1-paragraph summary

The first John Wick:

An ex-hit-man comes out of retirement to track down the gangsters that killed his dog and took his car.

I have not seen any of the sequels.

Haven't seen the first one. I think he beats up some bad guys.

The second one sucked. He beats up some bad guys.

The third one was a lot of fun. He beats up some bad guys.

The suits are bullet-proof. I had forgotten this going in and they don't remind you of it so I was kind of confused for a second there.

Honestly, I kind of hated Chapter 4. Maybe the volume was just too high in my theatre or I was sitting in some acoustical anomaly seat but my main memory of the experience is of a thousand extremely loud gun shots.

I just got out of the D&D movie. That was a very entertaining movie. A great way to spend a Sunday afternoon.

I saw it for the first time last year, but I didn't like the first John Wick enough to continue on with the series.

I need to find something to watch tonight.

Is that 6.38 stars, 6.38 shawarma, or?

Sicario (2015)

A very well made film. Some brilliant cinematography and an outstanding score. del Toro is an all-timer for sure -- I can't recall ever seeing him deliver anything but a top tier performance. Blunt was also excellent. I still don't really like Brolin or Bernthal though.

I'd give it a 7.9, which is a bit more generous than its IMdB rating of 7.1

Man, that was the beginning of an incredible run of films for Villenueve; Sicario - Arrival - Blade Runner 2049 - Dune.

Steve Albini wrote:Whenever there's active promotion on the part of somebody else, whenever I see somebody all dolled up for a fancy photograph and someone's handing out flyers or whenever there's active promotion for something like that, as an imposition on my day, I hate all those people and I want them to fail. I have a visceral reaction to advertising and promotion. There's just something about salesmanship that grates on me on a very base level and I react very negatively towards it. I want those people to suffer and I want their enterprises to fail.

Finished Wild. Really enjoyed it. It reminded me of Into The Wild in some ways, but also had a very different journey. Very solid lead role by Reese Witherspoon.
