My eyes were glued to the tv the moment Tom called the kids.

Tom is the best character on the show, IMO

Great stuff. Let the bloodbath of incompetence begin.
Highly recommend checking out the Inside the Episode for this one. Some great acting and production insights, not to mention Jeremy Strong's crystal meth hippie appearance.

That hit me like a ton of bricks. I think I'm going to drive over to my parents house and hug my dad.

Re: HBO: Succession
I had major flashbacks to when my dad coded while on the ventilator in the worst stages of his COVID coma. Getting that call from mom, feeling completely helpless, the moments between updates seeming like an eternity, etc. I felt like they nailed that sort of moment.

Low-key one of the most impactful, gut/punch moments of the episode was when Frank had to say to Kendall, “The pilot can’t talk to you…he’s flying the plane, son.”

I felt so sorry for Ken in that moment; he’s fighting to be a leader and demanding things just to seize some sort of control.Simple Torture wrote:Low-key one of the most impactful, gut/punch moments of the episode was when Frank had to say to Kendall, “The pilot can’t talk to you…he’s flying the plane, son.”

I didn't laugh much during an episode of Succession for the first time in a while, but this moment came close. I did laugh when Karl called Kerrie "Chuckles the Clown."The Argonaut wrote:If only his assistant could've found the best airplane medicine expert in time!Mecca wrote:I felt so sorry for Ken in that moment; he’s fighting to be a leader and demanding things just to seize some sort of control.Simple Torture wrote:Low-key one of the most impactful, gut/punch moments of the episode was when Frank had to say to Kendall, “The pilot can’t talk to you…he’s flying the plane, son.”

Re: HBO: Succession
I found the episode powerful but not necessarily affecting in the way you guys experienced it (despite the fact I have similar personal experiences). These characters are all too far gone for me to take them completely seriously, let alone really care about them as people anymore. I suppose that's a flaw of the show in that maybe they've leaned a little too hard into the comedy / caricature route.
What’d you guys think of their decision not show Logan right away? It seemed clear they were setting the audience up to think this was another Logan ploy just to get the kids in line. I’m sure the kids were initially thinking the same thing. In that, the choice was very effective, but it also undercut some of the emotional impact for the first 10-15 minutes of the sequence.
My favorite line: “We can do Reagan’s, with tweaks.”

The two scenes that did hit some emotionally honest beats for me were the final convo between Connor and Willa, and the brief shot of them getting married. Those were really strong.

Argo is going to be devastated.
Please, some reach out to him. Maybe tell about this ep in advance?

Re: HBO: Succession
Holy shit what an episode. I was not prepared for that.
I'm surprised I managed to avoid that spoiler all day yesterday.
You can tell how well the writers and actors know these characters, because the way everyone reacted and handled the shock was perfect. Conner's reactionary "He never even liked me" was great.
A lot of little moments hit hard, but that quick glimpse of Colin looking sad on the tarmac really got me.

Re: HBO: Succession
I thought it was a brave choice that worked pretty well because it put the focus on the reaction/fallout versus the event itself.Ensign9 wrote:I found the episode powerful but not necessarily affecting in the way you guys experienced it (despite the fact I have similar personal experiences). I feel for anyone who has had to experience similar, but I wasn't very moved by this episode. All of these people are assholes.

i believe armstrong said as much in the "making of" after the show.Monkey_Driven wrote:I thought it was a brave choice that worked pretty well because it put the focus on the reaction/fallout versus the event itself.Ensign9 wrote:I found the episode powerful but not necessarily affecting in the way you guys experienced it (despite the fact I have similar personal experiences). You’re only saying that because it’s produced by Adam McKay and Will FerrellVinylGuy wrote:Yeah, exactly, and this is a comedy guyyysEllo Sailor wrote:I feel for anyone who has had to experience similar, but I wasn't very moved by this episode. All of these people are assholes.
