Albini is a cringey chode. Bourdain may have been a little pretentious at times, but his content was always outstanding. RIP to the homie.

Tony had a great sense of humor, and he also had that self deprecation view that i liked. He also had empathy.

Re: What movies are you watching?
Maybe if you guys actually watched the outstanding documentary you'd know at least one of them better, and be able to differentiate more clearly between the two. Just maybe.

Implying there's more than one person struggling to differentiate them.

I have a visceral reaction to advertising and promotion. There's just something about salesmanship that grates on me on a very base level and I react very negatively towards it. I want those people to suffer and I want their enterprises to fail.

I've seen "I hate Albini" shirts. I've never seen "I hate Bourdain" on a shirt.

Dang he sounds cool too. Does he also have a documentary, or does he have to commit suicide first?tragabigzanda wrote:I’ll push back on “Albini had commercial success.” He’s actively rejected it; all his financial success is still very niche, and generally grounded in an anti-capitalist mindset.Malloy wrote:describe albini and describe bourdain.epilogue wrote:yesMalloy wrote:am i wrong to collapse albini and bourdain into the same dude

as I see it you have three options.
1. make an argument on why they are dissimilar, which could include responding to mine.
2. tell me why I'm mistaken that you in fact like or are agnostic re: self-consciously contrarian types, which I've said bourdain and albini are. my thinking is because you've never really presented in this overwhelming negative way (always affirmation, sincerity and kindness with you), you may not have much patience for it.
3. ignore what I've written, or answer a question with a question

Re: What movies are you watching?
This should be like an SNL skit; Albini or Bourdain?
What was that I'm thinking of? Mulroney or mulphoney?

one of those descriptions makes no attempt at a qualitative assessment of personality, while the other does, even if it's only a few sentences.Anders wrote:After reading this I can't tell them apart.
i'm not saying they have the same cv, which is all these two texts help establish.
the two descriptions you cite are as useful to understanding both guys as dividing one's attention while watching a movie. at best, you get a partial understanding. at worst, misunderstanding becomes fact.

Re: What movies are you watching?
have you read any of tony's books? because he was absolutely an asshole. the latter-day, saint tony tamps down a lot of that, in a television program he writes, produces, edits and directs.Ello Sailor wrote:Albini is a cringey chode.
