Re: The Supreme Court
Firstly, the $14M is just what he's contributed to campaigns above board. It says nothing of what he's given to PACs that he and they don't have to disclose publicly. The link you provided even states "huge sums of dark money."
Second of all, it's not even about the direct influence.
Crow not only has greater ability to connect Thomas (and his wife) with countless other influential people, but Crow can also boast that he can influence Thomas on another person's behalf. Which is even more beneficial for this other person because Crow can claim it's not a "specific ruling before Thomas that relates to Crow's businesses."
I agree that this story will not change anything about Thomas's seat, but it will certainly inspire some conversation about some new rules for justices moving forward.
Lastly, would these people be "friends", one's where it makes complete sense for Crow to pay for Thomas to go on vacation, if Thomas weren't a justice?

This isn't about, Harlan Crow.
This is about Clarence Thomas.

If only we'd had a hint of his unethical behavior before he was sworn onto the Court!blueviper wrote:As a public servant he should know the ethical problems this raises.
Even myself as a lowly local government employee go through ethics training and have guidelines on gifts that are or are not acceptable. I don’t let vendors take me out for lunches. Anything provided by a vendor as a gift or thanks to the city has to be $50 or below.
He’s at the highest level of government. And a judge. He should know better.
Everything's perfectly all right now. We're fine. We're all fine here, now, thank you. How are you?

why would anyone compare anything to that weirdo? lolBi_3 wrote:Thomas has a net worth of around $10Mwarehouse wrote:how much wealthier can he be then clarence thomas? i can't believe people buy this excuse that it's just some guy being a good friend
Crow manages between $20 to $30 billion in a private asset holding company
Crow has donated ~$14M total to republicans over the last 30 years: https://www.dallasnews.com/news/politic ... 3m-to-gop/
Compare this to SBF in 2020 alone: https://www.cbsnews.com/amp/news/ftx-sa ... ions-2022/
how much is his wife worth? i can't believe people are pretending these people are friends

So the new info about Thomas' real estate deal is actually problematic. That must be disclosed.

Re: The Supreme Court
the federal bar has a requirement that mandates all members to report what they know to be violations of codes and cannons of ethics by other members of the bar, including judges and justices. i presume the same is true for other members of the court about their colleagues.
