Re: What movies are you watching?
Loved Sicario this time. Had seen it before, but thought it was much better this time. That is actually rare, over time I rewatch a lot of movies, and naturally I tend to agree with my own original rating.
This is the first 2015 movie seen in 2023, that will enter my top ten of the year (I have yet to rewatch my previous 2015 top ten this year, but will do so eventually).

That was fine, nothing too special. A fairly believable and well made film.

Steve Albini wrote:Whenever there's active promotion on the part of somebody else, whenever I see somebody all dolled up for a fancy photograph and someone's handing out flyers or whenever there's active promotion for something like that, as an imposition on my day, I hate all those people and I want them to fail. I have a visceral reaction to advertising and promotion. There's just something about salesmanship that grates on me on a very base level and I react very negatively towards it. I want those people to suffer and I want their enterprises to fail.

I watched part of News of the World last night, but lost focus. I will probably finish it because my mom liked it and we can talk about the movie together.

The Danish Girl
« A fictitious love story loosely inspired by the lives of Danish artists Lili Elbe and Gerda Wegener. Lili and Gerda's marriage and work evolve as they navigate Lili's groundbreaking journey as a transgender pioneer.»
Did had great cinematography, and fine acting. Enjoyable movie.

Mission Impossible: Rogue Nation
«Ethan and his team take on their most impossible mission yet when they have to eradicate an international rogue organization as highly skilled as they are and committed to destroying the IMF.»
Seen this twice before. It’s a good action movie, one of the best MI movies.
After this only ten rewatches left for 2015 (my previous top ten), and 44 movies I haven’t seen before.

The Visit
«Two siblings become increasingly frightened by their grandparents' disturbing behavior while visiting them on vacation.»
Shyamalan movie.
About halfway through. It’s a bit slow, funny at times. Not much horror yet, but I assume it will intensify, with some twist near the end.
Edit: as expected. Movie lacked magic, although I did like some parts of it, including the ending.

Re: What movies are you watching?
above the shadows
watched this on prime video. 4 out of 5 stars
story about a young girl with a special bond with her mother. when her mother passes due to cancer she slowly starts to disappear from site and memory. she accepts her fate and works for a tabloid rag getting pics no one else can (since she is invisible to everyone). when taking another pic she is approached and removed from the club by the bouncer. shocked that he can see her she investigates why and tries to convince him that she is indeed invisible to everyone but him.
turns into a story about redemption and self-centeredness.

it's a movie that eschews pointlessly complex plots for funny and dazzling setpieces, I loved it as a retro fan

Been wanting to watch it but I can't find a non-dubbed screening to go to.

Re: What movies are you watching?
Here we only dub cartoons, so Mario is probably available in both versions. Sometimes the dubbed versions (like Ice Age and Shrek), receive more praise than the original, even if everyone older than 6 knows English, and we are used to watching a lot of movies and TV in English.
The guy who does the dubbed donkey in Shrek is much better than the original. Just amazing.

Re: What movies are you watching?
I think Studio Ghibli works better in Japanese, but I know many watch the dubbed versions.
Also Flåklypa Grand Prix (The Pinchcliffe Grand Prix) is a Norwegian movie, with an amazing cast. But I think everyone else watches the dubbed to English version.
