I think my issue with the Foos, why they miss the mark, is Dave's lyrics and singing personality. He has a certain kind of charisma, but compare him to Kurt Cobain; when you hear him sing, you know he's coming from a true place, and it really hits you on some deep levels. I think if Dave just wrote fun, shallow songs and didn't feign any level of reverence whatsoever, it'd be a much more enjoyable listen. A song like Big Me works for him.

He's a fun guy to hang out with, but not someone I want bloviating about saving people and being lonely and deep emotional issues people have sometimes. Leave that to the Kurt Cobains and Elliott Smiths of the world.

Agree with all this. It's what made their debut album their very best album: Total irreverence, off-the-cuff songwriting and no overt attempts to say anything of consequence.
In his defense, he was alone and was an easy target.

Yeah. I didn’t much care for it. Sounded like any other Foos tune from the past what, 10 or so years?

I like the instrumentation in the pre-chorus. Sounds like Dave on drums. Everything else about it is balls.
