found three handguns cleaning out my stepfathers place

one looks like a 38
one is a mauser -6, 35
one is a armi-tanfoglio mod gt 32-cal

being naive i stopped at the local police station and asked them the best way to sell them. was told to secure each gun and then take it to a gun shop. upon getting home i realized i had no clue how to check if they were loaded. took them back to the station to have them check for me.

mistake one was transporting weapons i am not registered to carry and may be loaded. they understood the situation and knew i meant no malice. they checked each and none were loaded or anything. friends with the one cop and he ran the serial numbers and they were not stolen but also there was no owner listed. they suggested getting them appraised as they were impressed with the mauser and armi-tanfoglio.

so now i wait to hear back from the gun shops i reached out to if they are interested in purchasing them

The thing that’s been hitting me this month is how many of these shootings are just a gun owner’s trigger-fetish response to an ordinary or unremarkable event.

Someone ringing the wrong doorbell. A neighbor using a leaf blower. Someone getting in the wrong car by mistake, or pulling into the wrong driveway, or delivering food to the wrong house. A neighbor asking a neighbor for a favor.

I think those are all from April. We keep seeing more and more people so thirsty for a chance to use their gun as a means to assert themselves that there’s no impulse left to review the situation, themselves, or their options.

I assume this is related to some state initiatives to weaken stand your ground/ castle doctrine laws, despite being technically irrelevant to these particular cases. Violent felons being the most victimized class must be allowed to go about their business unmolested.
