This record is so full of homages it's becoming pretty great for that reason alone.

Lose yourself into Christina I have to go listen to Whiter Shades of Pale now. It is getting weird "you gotta never let her go" and "and I read it in a magazine" from Benny and the Jets
Lightning bolt the song would have been better if it was calles Magazine.

You probably are, but in a very filtered form.

I love those vocals in the distant background starting at 3:17.

I love the way that part is sung. Like I said, it never bothers me if a PJ song sounds like something else. It usually does if you think long enough. The important thing is they do it better.

there are what, 300-400 officially released songs by all musicians ever at this point? Some are bound to sound like others.

For me, it really is. And to be honest, I don't understand why it wouldn't be for anyone who is listening to the same songs from the same band. The beauty of diversity, I guess. It is still one of the songs with most votes on the poll so I'm sure there are more out there on RM who would back me up. Maybe they're in hiding or too busy playing it on repeat to bother posting. That reminds me, gotta get back to that.

I think I prefer Lbolt and backspacer to every post vitalogy record, but is infallible better than given to fly, do the evolution, or world wide suicide. I don't think I'm prepared to make that claim

The scope of the song is broader and I find it to be the best example of Pearl Jam experimenting with something different and completely nailing it in every respect. Those songs you mentioned are all 5 star songs for me, though WWS is probably 4.5. But I'd take Infallible over them if I was forced to choose one. More than anything, it's the nostalgia and time spent listening to the older songs which makes it harder to pick a new one over them. They're all great songs at any rate. 'Best' may not be the right word to throw around so early but it's definitely in the same tier.

same tier is fair. And you're right, time amplifies them. I consider Life Wasted, Comatose, and WWS the last batch of 5 star songs (a few on backspacer got close) but even there they lack the mystique of some of the older songs. In fairness the 5 stars might also just reflect my enjoyment of them more than their 'objective' quality.

I don't know in the end if L-bolt will have any songs that remain truly 5 stars (Binaural, No Code, Riot Act, and probably Backspacper don't). But it'll have a lot that come really close if it doesn't

I have this at a solid 4 with room to grow. I love the rhythm and the chorus vocal melody. It's a bit arbitrary and probably not a sound reason to like the song more but what adds to this song is that its the first song in a long time that i can hear Ten era Pearl Jam without it being hur dur or derivative of something else from then. It also manages to do it with some of the quirk from Binaural/RA Pearl Jam.
There's the dog. You can't fake that stuff. Confess with your mouth.

Actually, now that I think about it, the last album with ANY five star songs for me was Yield. S/T and Backspacer I like more as albums but there is no real 5 star entry on either for me. They're just consistently very good. Binaural and Riot Act have a few which get close but again, no real 5 star song. Infallible and the other four I love from LB are actually the only ones I can really get behind to be in the same tier as the stuff on the first three albums (and the best songs on Yield). And Infallible holds it's own against anything, in my opinion. Time will decide if it stays that way.

Yeah, the post you quoted was actually sarcasm. I don't care either ;) Pearl Jam is beautiful, no matter what they say. Words can't bring them down.
