I blame them letting SG use Matt Cameron.

As soon as they agreed they all thought "woo hoo" time off from pearl jam!!!

The more I read Jeff's interviews the more he sounds pissed off by the album not miving forward situation.

I can't really take anymore non new albums shows once you have seen them some 20-30 times. But people asking for another Riot Act are funny. When that album came out, there was so much hate for that album here and at the pit for that record.
The people I know who love Riot Act pretty much always loved Riot Act. And, you know, people are allowed to change their minds.

No, you see, the fact that a large contingent of the forum (the great majority of which don't even post here anymore) didn't like it when it came out a decade ago clearly invalidates everyone's current opinions. REVISIONISTS!!!

After hearing the 1989 EV demos I'm convinced the only direction for this band to move is further into the past. Why blaze further trails when the path already trodden is littered with "What the Funk"s and "I'm Alive"s waiting for their rightful owners to come back and retrieve them? Life's greatest treasures, those of which we spend decades and beyond in pursuit, are often things we had from the very beginning, and most of the time they're sitting right where we left them. Want not for more, fans; look to 1988, there you will find your masterpieces.

Agree with your frustration around the difference between their words and actions from PJ20 onwards but the comment about Riot Act and this board isn't really true.

The evolution of this board in regards to new album releases has been interesting to watch. Binaural was almost universally praised (including its production) for years after its release. It was rare to see people in discussion who didn't consider it Top 2-3 of PJ's releases for a long time. Riot Act also got a lot of universal praise on this board early. There was only very muted criticism of things like the missed opportunity with Bush Leaguer. That sentiment lasted a much shorter timeframe and the reassesment of Riot Act began a lot sooner so that by the time of build up for S/T there was much more talk of a needed return to form. However, at time of first release for RA there wasn't a lot of hate here on the board.

S/T was interesting because there was a decent sized group of posters (Stip et al) who were really excited by the album upon release, feeling it had reinvigorated PJ. However it was the first album where there was a clear split from the get go, with plenty of people criticising a range of songs plus the production. Backspacer was the first album where I would say sentiment on this board tipped to it largely being disposable straight from its release, rather than in a few months after the intial excitement died down.

I am not try to be negative...But, I honestly think as far as pearl jam releasing another great album...It isn't going to happen....I think they sort of lost their passion...Maybe the band is to comfortable with their lifestyles now...Which in result not much creativty....I don't know...Just my own little opinion..

Oh yeah, people opinons can change, mine have in many ways also for bands. I just think they will never do another riot act and would not want another one. If I remember correctly. They announced on the pit that the band was recording. And then just two weeks later they were done or something. It went rather quick.

It just seems to me that Jeff is really frustrated with the band, has he put out all these albums because the band rejected most of his demos? Or is he no longer sharing his demos? Ed seems pretty comfortable now being Neil Young and Mike it mike. I think letting matt be in two bands has been a huge mistake. Is stone the problem?

I think the band itself doesn't have any motivation for this new album...I think Ed just had way too much influence on the last album....I think half of backspacer was basically an Ed solo album...

And who is "letting" Matt be in two bands? If he was only allowed to be in one, which band do you think he would choose?
One more time around...

Ed is so high on Matt....Ed would let Matt do anything...As long as he doesn't leave pearl jam.....Basically, he doesn't want to piss off Matt..But, it is Matt's choice basically what he wants to do...

I really don't think Matt playing in Soundgarden is the problem.

Ed obviously, it's his band and it has been since the no code era, they maybe more democratic, but I think Ed is the big force in everything,.
