Star Wars : The Mandalorian (Disney+ 2019)

Overall bad season, easily the worst of the series.

The good:

Zeb
Grogu (when he was in it). I love when he gets angry and the noises he makes. That fella really grew on me over the years.
The Mythosaur

The bad:

The dialogue
The Jack Black, Lizzo, and Doc episode
The Moff Gideon storyline. All of it from the return to the "death", and shoehorning in the Thrawn reference with him
Pedro Pascal. Why have him? It's basically a voiceover. And the way he delivered dialogue, I'm pretty sure it was him voicing over after they filmed scenes. During many of his lines, I felt the inflection didn't fit what was happening. Horrible.
The space pirates. They looked like a bad Pirates of the Carribbean movie.
The episode lengths. I know one or two were long, but most episodes felt like they needed another 15 minutes of hashing stuff out.

The episode with Jack Black was not bad, but it was Wizard of Oz weird.

Overall 4 stars, We maybe would of liked it better if not for the high bar season2 set.

The best criticism Ive read of the series was " the series threatened brilliance but never really reached that level". Hard to argue.

What did you like about this season more than the previous two?

I know I'm in the minority here, and I respect that, totally get it, but for me The Mandalorian has always been a kinda wonky show that was poorly written. It's focused more on the video game model of quest, side quest, resolution with no real goal. It's also relied on Grogu just being cute.

So, for me, this season was about something so much larger. Din and Grogu aren't especially interesting characters to me. You can look back at this very thread and see how excited I was that they introduced Bo-Katan into the show, for example. At it's best, this show is about the larger Mandalorian mythology. That's something this season excelled at. It sidelined the "adventure of the week" structure (which doesn't do a lot for me) in favor of a grand arch.

To me, the larger Mandalore plot is far more interesting. Also, the connections to Palpatine, Snoke, and the First Order is something that fascinates me. The show began with that stuff. The original premise was The Imperial Remnant wants Grogu because of his Force ability. That was where we started. So getting back to that meant a lot to me.
