Re: 2023 Tour Rumors and Speculation
I got row 4 in 118 (best section, Mike’s side) for night one and row 3 in the same section for night two in St. Paul. After the reassignment, I’m in row 3 for both. They must still be doing lotto for rows 1 and 2. So Ten Club is still getting the best tickets.tragabigzanda wrote:Pure speculation, but given the rise of flex pricing, I’d bet 10C isn’t able to buy those blocks of premium seats anymore. Assuming prices balloon to $400/ticket, that’s a lot of profit the venues would have to be giving up to let 10C guarantee the first few rows to their members
I have a very low number and only put in for reserved seats for two nights per tour. The only time I’ve been shut out was Seattle for TotD. The only time I had shitty seats was the first Wrigley show (row one, but waaaaaaaay off to the side). Only at MSG shows have I felt like large swaths of premium seats were reserved for the elite. I’m very grateful for Ten Club.

Re: 2023 Tour Rumors and Speculation
To continue to protect fans’ access to fairly priced tickets, Pearl Jam has decided to make tickets non-transferable where permitted, and by selling approximately 10% of tickets through PJ Premium at the market rate to offset increased costs. Tickets on this tour will continue to be non-transferable in all states except Illinois where it is prohibited by law. We apologize in advance to Illinois fans who may be subject to increased ticket prices on the secondary market.Malloy wrote:what did they do?Strat wrote:Per their announcement though it was PJ's choice to set aside 10% to premium seating to help offset touring costs?tragabigzanda wrote:Pure speculation, but given the rise of flex pricing, I’d bet 10C isn’t able to buy those blocks of premium seats anymore. IIRC it's the same as Ticketmaster 'Platinum' tickets.tragabigzanda wrote:Wtf is PJ Premium

i was going through some old things the other day and i found my ticket stubs to the detroit masonic temple show in march 1994 where the ticket was $18 and the chicago metro show in march 1992 that was $12.

Ahh, so they withheld 10 percent of the tickets to sell at a premium (market price)

How did people qualify for PJ premium? What do they get for the extra cost?

I see you haven't bought concert tickets in awhile.tragabigzanda wrote:How did people qualify for PJ premium? What do they get for the extra cost?
It will just be an option at the public sale "premium" and those ticket costs will fluctuate as the day goes on. That is why some people were paying thousands of dollars for bruce/taylor tickets etc.
PJ has allotted about 10% of those tickets at each show to be purchased as such.

I'm sure there will be a smattering. But yes. I'm sure some GA seats will be available, lower bowl by stage etc.tragabigzanda wrote:But are they guaranteed to be better seats or something? This industry has become vile.

let's be fair. the band is doing this -- not the industry -- and they don't have to.Strat wrote:I'm sure there will be a smattering. But yes. And this isn't to defend the band just commentary for discussion.
I've read countless articles about how it's extremely difficult for bands to tour these days and costs have skyrocketed. From insurance, lost money to Covid cancellations, to amp parts being difficult to come by, be venues taking larger cuts of merch sales.
I don't expect Pearl Jam to not make money for themselves. And no doubt it's much harder for smaller bands. But there's been enough to j anecdotes to larger bands as well.
So, is it valid of them to add premium tickets ? Or all bullshit ?

Re: 2023 Tour Rumors and Speculation
the destroyer tickets that my sister and i have for this weekend didn't have a premium option. your framing of this change to some bands' pricing policies obscures the fact that not every band does this, but pearl jam does.Strat wrote:They industry as whole, which includes them, yes is doing itMalloy wrote:let's be fair. the band is doing this -- not the industry -- and they don't have to.Strat wrote:I'm sure there will be a smattering. destroyer is in the industry; destroyer doesn't have this pricing policy

Re: 2023 Tour Rumors and Speculation
That's not a fair comparison at all. And I'm not saying every band does it. Seems like most bands at pjs level are doing it now.Malloy wrote:the destroyer tickets that my sister and i have for this weekend didn't have a premium option. your framing of this change to some bands' pricing policies obscures the fact that not every band does this, but pearl jam doesStrat wrote:They industry as whole, which includes them, yes is doing itMalloy wrote:let's be fair. the band is doing this -- not the industry -- and they don't have to.Strat wrote:I'm sure there will be a smattering. you're right, they are not similar bands, but they are in the same industry.Strat wrote:That's not a fair comparison at all. And I'm not saying every band does it. all im saying is your framing is wrong. I don't know why you're insisting on this sleight of hand of redescrbing the dynamics for some successful artists as "an industry wide reality."

Industry wide in difficulty and increased costs of touring.
