Empire of Light. This wasn’t very good. The performances were fine I suppose, but weak screenplay and characters.

Watching it on a plane definitely took away from seeing the cinematography and hearing the score though.

Blackhat

«A furloughed convict and his American and Chinese partners hunt a high-level cybercrime network from Chicago to Los Angeles to Hong Kong to Jakarta.»

Actually added this today. Just felt like watching it. Never seen it before. Have seen that it splits opinions more than most other movies.

My brother watched Top Gun Maverick on a plane after I raved to him about it (I also told him it was a theater movie that should be seen on the biggest screen possible)

He told me that he didn't get the hype and then got mad at me when I laughed at him.

Steve Albini wrote:Whenever there's active promotion on the part of somebody else, whenever I see somebody all dolled up for a fancy photograph and someone's handing out flyers or whenever there's active promotion for something like that, as an imposition on my day, I hate all those people and I want them to fail. I have a visceral reaction to advertising and promotion. There's just something about salesmanship that grates on me on a very base level and I react very negatively towards it. I want those people to suffer and I want their enterprises to fail.

I really don't remember how dumb I found it, but I remember really digging the style also. I'd re-watch it.

It’s a pretty dumb movie, despite it having great style
I enjoyed it, my wife hated it. Happens once in a while.

Demolition

«A successful investment banker struggles after losing his wife in a tragic car crash. With the help of a customer service rep and her young son, he starts to rebuild, beginning with the demolition of the life he once knew.»

Another Jake Gyllenhaal movie. Great first five minutes already.

I think Jake’s role here could have done better if he pretended to grieve a little more.

Think this movie was very interesting and really good. One of the best new movies I’ve seen in a while. Already look forward to seeing it again.

I think I'll have to see Beau. It's one showing and then it's gone.
