Re: What movies are you watching?
Never saw "characters that draw you in" as a prerequisite for the kinds of movies Prometheus and Covenant are. I don't really see them as character driven at all, and I don't know why it would have to be the characters that make you care about it and not one of the dozens of other aspects that make a movie

I have a visceral reaction to advertising and promotion. There's just something about salesmanship that grates on me on a very base level and I react very negatively towards it. I want those people to suffer and I want their enterprises to fail.

I really liked Guy Ritchie's The Covenant.

The characters are secondary!bart wrote:Doesn’t matter what kind of movie it is.spike wrote:Since when are Alien movies dramasbart wrote:The characters have generic, cheap comic book level traits and motivations. They are all super melodramatic cutouts and I disliked nearly everyone, which is kind of impressive because I generally like most of the actors.
As for a distinctive visual style I just don’t see it, it has the washed out and cold look of any number of recent sci fi movies.

I wouldn't say "character driven", but if they are going to be there taking up all that space and time, they could be adding something, instead of getting in the way.

Mistress America
«A lonely college freshman's life is turned upside-down by her impetuous, adventurous stepsister-to-be.»
I get a lot of enjoyment from watching movies, and have had a lot of fun with my project of watching one year after another.
It started by a few movies from each year in the 1920s, then a few more from each year in the 30s. Obviously now it’s gotten to 100+ for 2015, a record amount so far. Might be a bit annoying to read about, sorry about that.
My favorite part of these years are when I get to the final movies, movies I’ve saved because they are top movies I’ve never seen, or a few special rewatches of top movies I’ve often only seen once before. 2015 is getting there now, and I will certainly finish posting about the year until I’m done with it.
Will start Mistress America as soon as I’ve posted this. It’s the 27th last movie from 2015 on my list. I loved Frances Ha, and that is where the bar is for this.

The new It’s are on Hulu. I’d like to watch, but I think I need to be in the right mood.

The first one's definitely scarier than the second, relatively speaking, but neither are really "scary".

I don’t get scared easily and clowns don’t freak me out, so I’m just looking to be entertained.

This had some wonderful scenes, both in a dramatic sense, but also others that were hilarious, that had me laughing out loud.Anders wrote:Mistress America
Loved the main characters.
The main negative was that it seemed unrealistic/fake at times, like the actors were rehearsing a play. That pulls it a down a little, away from being a true favorite of mine.
