Between this, his approach to the album cycle, and his newsletter (lol), he seems like just another out of touch boomer musician to be honest. How unfortunate.
Say it ain't so, P Gabz.

four kinds of horses (bright side mix) was just uploaded
https://petergabriel.bandcamp.com/track ... t-side-mix
i think this jumps to the top of the new songs for me. i'm not sure that's saying a lot at this point, but i feel like this is the type of sound and song i've been hoping to hear and seems a natural progression from up. it's definitely the first track of this new batch that i wanted to immediately listen to again, and with headphones on.

Ever listen to a song you've heard a million times and then realize you've never really listened to it before. Big Time came on yesterday and I never noticed how prominent the bass is which is incredible since the song is built around it.

Re: Dispatches from the Real World: A Peter Gabriel Thread
it's nice that there's an genuinely upbeat sounding song on here, i was beginning to wonder. my first thought was this sounds a bit like a far less menacing, happier 'the tower that ate people', and then reading the notes it's said this song had it's genesis in the ovo period so that made sense. also some kiss that frog. so, no real groundbreaking going on here, but enjoyable and fun, something not really heard yet during this lengthy roll-out.

Re: Dispatches from the Real World: A Peter Gabriel Thread
in the email blast it had this note:
"The song is one of the last tracks to emerge for the i/o record, but it has some DNA from an earlier project; ‘It was actually very late in the record that we got to this. There had been a song that musically I'd started, I think, around the OVO project called Pukka. It was very different to this, but it was actually the starting point for coming back to this song. I just felt there was a good groove there, and I wanted something else with rhythm and so we tried a few things when I was working with Brian Eno. The excitement and energy in the song was something that I was getting off on. I felt we didn't have enough of that for this record.’

Re: Dispatches from the Real World: A Peter Gabriel Thread
i wonder the same. definitely, 'it was very late in the record that we got to this ... we didn't have enough of that for this record' doesn't seem very promising in that regard. and we've heard at least half the songs now. i've avoided checking out vids of other new tracks in the shows (olive tree, this is home, love can heal, and still, what lies ahead, live and let live), and i'm not sure if all of those will be on the album as a couple of them had been played on earlier tours, so we may be looking at a fairly dour record.tragabigzanda wrote:Kind of discouraging how he says “we didn’t have enough of that…” Are we to assume that one upbeat song filled the quota? I don’t need him to repeat the So/Us period, but I hope there’s a couple more uptempo numbers.

I thought we had a Genesis thread but I can’t find it if so. I’m assuming this is the Genesis catch-all thread? I’m about to make my deep dive journey into them. Haven’t decided if I’m going to include solo albums
