I can relate to that in my own life, so... yeah, I was a mess before I met my wife.

Yeah I'm with EJ. I don't really care for Future Days or The End not because I think they stink rather I don't want an Eddie solo track on a PJ album. I don't think a full band effort would add anything to those tracks so best save them for the solo album(s). I like Pearl Jam not Eddie and the Pearl Jams.

I believe stone/mike was playing the violen part live with a slide.
There's the dog. You can't fake that stuff. Confess with your mouth.

Makes sense. If they do this one live, at least it will be PJ playing it.

I'm not sure but I would guess the whole band minus Matt plays here. There's additional guitar and bass.

Back in the day, when the band wrote something personal they'd come out with something stellar like Off He Goes.

Re: New Song: Future Days
Not sure if it would help matters but I kinda wondered if parts of the lyrics of 'off he goes' were taken from things other people had actually said to him.
Also I read a YouTube comment (I know) once where someone said to them it represented the two 'halves' of a bipolar person, being so themselves. Which I thought was kinda interesting.
But yeah it sounds fucking amazing so who cares.

Re: New Song: Future Days
Did Ed talk directly about this song anywhere?
Unless he did, why does everyone assume it's about his wife? Maybe it's about his kids? Maybe it's about the band? Maybe it's about fans? Maybe it is part of a conceptual album, and about the afterlife? Maybe it's about all of the above?
I think there's a lot of assumptions being made here.
Anyway, I actually think this song is great. It's nice that they are maturing as a band and realize a nice soft ballad here or there doesn't kill anyone. Moreover, for those who think Ed should release a song like this as a solo effort, you're lucky (and so is the band) he's still around. Without him this band ceases to exist. He chooses PJ as his vehicle. If he wants to have a solo-style song here or there as they move along, so be it. The band's not stupid enough to question that. And.. It's not going to change. Ed probably realizes that it's cooler and more dignified to be 60/70 years old and play a solo gig with an acoustic guitar than jump around like these morgue'd idiots and pretend they are still "rocking":

I like this song, I just wish they would have used the same pump organ they use in the song on the intro and outdo. It would tie together better and not sound so out of place.

For Vedder, the tragic stuff includes the accidental drowning death of friend Dennis Flemion of the band the Frogs in July 2012, a loss referenced in the song "Future Days." The singer says mortality wasn't something he wanted to focus on with "Lightning Bolt" so much as something he couldn't get away from. "It sounds so pedestrian and ridiculous but death is everywhere," he says. "Maybe just because I read the paper every day. Maybe it's war, maybe it's the epidemic rates of suicide in veterans coming back. I just can't seem to get around it. So I think part of it is not getting around it, it's getting through it. Songs end up being mantras that you end up playing for yourself as well."

I'm thinking we should lock down the board for 24 hours so we can all step back and reassess.

I'm gonna come right out in support of this song, but then I like Wishlist, Just Breathe and Thin Air, so what do I know?
The piano is too much though.
