I say keep 'em both! I admittedly don't find them terribly similar, not within the context of the universal "90's Smashing Pumpkins songs" language they inevitably share. "Muzzle" feels like a straightforward midtempo rock anthem, albeit a great one characteristic of the kind of stuff SP were pumping out in 1995; "Rocket" is slower, fuzzier, dreamier, shoegazier, harder to pin down musically. Perhaps they'd benefit from being spaced out by something distinctly different from them both -- a "Thirty-Three," or a "Whir," or a "Luna" -- but I say include them both without hesitation!Jorge wrote:Can "Muzzle" and "Rocket" coexist in a Smashing Pumpkins playlist or are they way too similar to each other

I've always loved this demo version of Rocket. The slower groove serves the song well.

Not really seeing the crossover, other than the standard Aeeeeaeaaaaheeeeahhh qualities. Rocket is a far better song, if that helps at all.

It's a tonal thing, and a strumming pattern thing, and they're both similar tempos and move in similar ways to my ears. I had them right next to each other in a playlist and it felt like too much of the same flavor so I am taking KD's advice and sticking something darker and less mid-tempo in there to split them up

Something kind of South Asian sounding about this versionFarmer John wrote:I've always loved this demo version of Rocket. The slower groove serves the song well.

Not really hearing it. Maybe I'm tone/strum deaf.Jorge wrote:It's a tonal thing, and a strumming pattern thing
Anyway, this band is amazing. You should post that shit when you're done.

I skipped this band when they toured very recently. Way too expensive and didn't want to subsidise the stupid wrestling troupe that Corgan brought with him. I'm sure they'll be back.

Where are you based, again? How much for tix? One of the shows got terrible reviews for sound, but overall I think the tour was a success.
Wrestling will always be mega cringe to me. It's actually insane that grown men watch that shit.

Exactly.
Pumpkins toured with Jane's Addiction and some other wrestling nonsense here in Australia only a few weeks ago. Tickets were around the $150 mark from memory.
I saw them in 96 and 08 - probably content with those two times tbh.

Should have also seen them in 94 but I was a poor student and had to choose between seeing Soundgarden at a club show or going to the Big Day Out festival where both Soundgarden and the Pumpkins were playing.Ello Sailor wrote:You can take another hiatus. The 96 show was, of course, the original lineup, and was on the MCIS tour when they'd play the Mustang scene from Bullitt in full on a projector before they came to out to perform. Wild times, and unlikely to be topped by anything they could possibly offer now.

That's amazing. Thank you for sharing.
My fav. Pumpkins performance is actually from that era.
Quite an unexpected setlist. I feel like Billy was playing the contrarian and pulled out a bunch of shit that they hadn't played on the tour leading up to that point. The results speak for themselves -- they've never sounded better. Even D'arcy is on fire.

That was solid. If Corgan never sang a lick I would have been totally fine with it.Ello Sailor wrote:That's amazing. Thank you for sharing.
