Half way through and really enjoying it. I had noted in the Ellis thread that it is lengthy but there really is a breeziness to a lot of Ellis' writing that I thoroughly enjoy. The particular locale is an area of LA that I also enjoyed immensely... I'll get back out there one of these days.

right behind you, len. I just want to finish the library books I have stored up on my Kindle. There's a waitlist for a few of them and I've had the poor thing in airplane mode for the last week so I wouldn't lose them. But Moby dick is coming soon

Godspeed. I checked out the digital version from library, as well as ordered a transfer of a physical copy to my library. This will likely take me 4 months to get through.

I hope you enjoy it. I read it earlier this year and by the time I’d finished I was a little annoyed with the story.

That's literally the first negative thing I've heard about it. Thank you.

I thought it was a fun read. The bit that sticks with me most is that what the kids call "capitalism" today basically used to be what was criticized as "consumerism". Tied in with the obsession of not "selling out", which was ultimately a destructive obsession that he doesn't really recognize in the culture anymore. Something like that

Love Chuck. Haven't read the book. But that sounds... cringy and unfortunate. But I need to read what he said and not a one sentence summary before passing judgement. Alarm bells though, you know.
