Pro Trip as a two decade Hilton diamond member: Check back periodically to see if you can book closer, rooms open up in waves even if a hotel is marked as sold out for a certain date.

will do, although I did it all through Expedia.... sometimes that makes it harder but I opted for the fully refundable flights and hotel.
