Hah, that’s probably not far from the truth. I still read Stone’s “Ed is my muse” as a half truth coated in a thin layer of sarcasm. He’s made peace with letting go of having any meaningful creative input; he’s found other avenues for it and prefers harmony. Jeff on the other hand… might need to see Stone’s therapist.

I feel like Stone’s whole “Ed is my muse” thing is something that came out of his final therapy session. Like his shrink threw that out there and he was like “that’s it! I’m cured! Thanks doc, I think we’re done here.” And he’s been living the lie ever since.

Did Stone actually say Ed was his muse?

I sensed a mixture of sarcasm and realness. The context is that Eddie has the final say on how songs are put together and what ends up on the album. Stone complained once about either writing a lot of stuff that doesn’t get used or that gets mixed in a weird way that’s far from his original intent. Eddie claimed it’s hard to write lyrics and sing to songs that don’t fit his style. Stone has to compose with Eddie in mind, hence why he’s his ‘muse’.

I dont believe that stone stating after he writes a song he thinks of how the lead singer of his band for over 30 years will react to it is far fetched/tongue in cheek.

Of course it’s reality; I didn’t say it was far fetched. But I don’t think it’s an entirely positive statement that Stone is making, especially when you take it in context of their history head butting over creative control. Of course stone has to write with Ed in mind, but that often means writing what Ed will accept, which is Ed’s style of music. Calling Ed his muse is both true and coated in a crispy layer of crunchy semi-sweet bitterness and tasty sarcasm.

it sounded more like a compliment to me. i'm sure eddie vedder isn't the single reason stone gossard writes music, but they've been doing this together for a while now.

This is all lunch meat. First of all Stone wrote Aalmost all Ten with out even knowing if Eddie. I don't believe he wrote crap with Ed in mind. If he is doing this it is exactly the wrong. Ed needs to do his job. Jobs can be hard. Maybe be if it wasn't easy we would have gotten something good with Stone LB stuff. There isn't a classic Stone riff on Gigaturd. Oh but what about buckle up? It is self indulgence nonsense. I believe in Andrew and the new guy with the stocking cap that thinks he is Princhanti. They will right this ship. Since 2007 Ed has more solo output than Pearl Jam. Pearl Jam is Tom Springsteen 's side project. I vote replace Stone with Lindsey Buckingham and Ed with Stevie Nicks.
