agree with Trag.
Listend once through. Seems like it is trying too hard to be weird, for sake of being weird.
There are some stuff I love and nobody does rock music like this shit. So thats awesome.
The drums don't fit the songs. They seem flat and unproduced while everything else is super overproduced and weird. So, they just kind of hold the songs back or there is a weird disconnect.

Yeah that’s a wild statement. LC is phenomenal.
I played this new about 4x through my work day. I’m enjoying it quite a bit. I haven’t picked any favorites yet because I haven’t been paying attention to the song titles. But yeah I’m pretty happy with it.

Can't say I've ever heard anyone describe Jon Theodore's drumming in that way.tragabigzanda wrote:Yeah there’s no energy from those drums, Peephole not withstanding.

It's not his playing we are talking about.zeb wrote:Can't say I've ever heard anyone describe Jon Theodore's drumming in that way.tragabigzanda wrote:Yeah there’s no energy from those drums, Peephole not withstanding.

I had a go with this album
the relentless reservedness of the drums is a good example of why I don't like this band as much as I should in theory
the drummer should be going ham but sounds asleep at the wheel
also I find them generally to have a lack of dynamics, a song begins in virtually the same way it ends

This new album is quite a victim to that.Ms Harmless wrote:also I find them generally to have a lack of dynamics, a song begins in virtually the same way it ends
Not that there is anything wrong with that should it happen to be done well, I mean that is a lot of desert rock in general in my opinion but there is something off about the final production to me; the new album is loud in all the wrong places.

All of their choices re: arrangement and the mix are completely consistent with the bulk of their catalogue.
The only major difference to me is in the mastering: this album is much quieter than almost all of their other records.
I don't have any issue with the positioning of the drums/percussion, I think they serve each of the songs perfectly as is.
