And when you do finally figure out whatever it is, there just isn’t that ‘yes!’ Moment. And the result find/solution/reward etc just isn’t worth it.
I’m not loving it for the most part

But we go on
I agree with this sentiment.

It just feels like everything is about completing lists: shrines, lightroots, koroks, caves, wells, monsters, armor sets, glyph memories, fucking Bolson sign guy, etc.

What’s the point of the underworld? To mine? Why? To extend battery life. Okay. It’s a lot of faffing to be able to ride a contraption for ten more seconds.
The only other shit down there are past outfits. I found the tunic of wind, twilight, hero, and there are trousers and a cap for each? One fucking pair of khakis will tie together any of those outfits. Which I also have to upgrade by again collecting monster parts and star fragments and minerals. If I opened a chest and found a hook shot, I’d be so excited.

I’ve done 3 of the temples, and I enjoyed them, but they’re just puzzles until the boss. Remember how hard some rooms used to be in temples because of the enemies? I am maxed out on stamina but not on to a second row of hearts, and as long as I’m carrying a meal or two, I’m basically invincible. I’m avoiding Gerudo because I trying to extend the game. Looking for shrines after defeating Ganondorf feels pointless. But I’ll never find all 152. And looking shit up online and then doing it is about as satisfying as plagiarizing an essay.

I have enjoyed most of the shrines, especially where you’re stripped of your weapons. I love the monster hunting side quests but do wish they would include some of the tougher baddies. Hyrule feels more populated than ever, and I like that. But this game isn’t better than BotW. It’s just more. It’s appropriately priced dlc. I really do hope for a complete reimagining for the next generation.

Can’t disagree with any of that. One good thing was the shrines feel a lot more intuitive than those in BOTW rather than brain burners with lethal outcomes if you fall or whatever. Some simpler but headwreck difficult in that they’re so obvious when you figure it out.
There’s a lot to love in this but it just feel like a massive box ticking exercise. No real wow moments I do love the three different maps to explore but they could have done something completely different with the islands and depths than the surface. Both feel really sparse. They both look beautiful but nothing really there to engage with.

There definitely should have been more movable islands. Plenty of potential.

Pretty accurate for me. It’s just….tedious? I’ve played every Zelda except Minish Cap so this game is kind of like a mediocre season in a long series of a tv show I love. I’m still going to see it through.

Not too many systems get multiple Zelda games. However you feel about Adventure of Link or Majora’s Mask, neither felt like a retread. This just does. There are certainly pockets of genuine enjoyment, but they are not as frequent as feeling like, “Oh, I gotta upgrade my dark tunic or help this gimp stabilize another sign in the middle of nowhere.”

You know what best encapsulates the game? That harmless bubble-making cave dweller whose limp body I’ve watched fall horrifically from 30 plus ceilings, and then you collect the bubble gem and the description says, something like, “Getting this will make you want…..collect more?” That really seems to be the endgame.

I saw that.. and no.. I didn't find him once

Ah!

The very first time you meet him is up the hill from some stable. You have to save him from some of those evil whomper trees then he relocates to lookout landing for a bit and you can find him there for a while.

I don’t know what the stable is called but it’s the first or second one northwest of lookout landing. Beside a big canyon
Didn't see him but good news I found the ice gleeok lol who froze me n wiped me out in 1 shot

Loving every second. Unless the ending completely unravels, this will proudly become CopperTom's all_time #1 game. Seems like there's too much to do for some of you - ignore the "distractions" like caves, wells, Koroks, Dragons and just focus on the Shrine or Lightroot or quest.

Weekly update

All 152 Shrines completed. All Shrine chests found. All Shrine puzzles completed and chests found without internet assistance. I needed internet assistance locating 2 Shrines on the surface.
All 120 Lightroots found. 119 found without internet assistance.
388 Koroks
8 + 4 Batteries
I finally pulled the Master Sword.
I have about a dozen side quests left.
I'll probably defeat Ganon early this week.

I'm having a lot of fun playing this game, and i'm probably 140+ hours into it now but i'm inclined to agree with you guys on a lot of points here. ToTK is ultimately just a really fun sandbox built over the skeleton of a great game we all loved. There's nothing to complain about but it really does feel like you're just ticking boxes and collecting/hoarding. And it's too easy. I've been overpowered basically since I hit the ground in Hyrule. I kinda wish there was a difficulty slider so things could be a bit more challenging. I don't think I've died to a boss yet so the stakes feel really low. Maybe i've been playing too many Fromsoft games since BoTW?

I've never been a Zelda player and BoTW was really my first entry into the series. That game felt magical and the exploration was organic and purposeful. The design was far better than most other open world games even to this day. You see something in the distance and you need to spend some time and effort to get there. Here, i'm fast travelling constantly, building machines or launching out of a skytower and paragliding over everything until i see something shiny that catches my attention. I barely used fast travel in BoTW until late game because i didn't want to miss anything.

And yet... i love this game. It's flawed but fun as hell.

That’s another thing.
The fast travelling and towers letting you get there almost instantly with skydiving. You dint end up exploring anything like as much as you would in the previous game. I know that’s a personal decision but still

I’m fairly sure I’ve covered every single inch of the entire map in botw several times over. That was the joy of it.
I planned on doing that here too but the distractions and ease of just getting to the next thing In zero time undoes that. And it’s a shame cos it’s such a different and varied map(s)

I read a spoiler about the mayor election side quest. No fuckin way am I wasting time with that nonsense tho haha

After you expand your battery to 8, you can keep upgrading your battery. The cells will change color from green to blue. The blue batteries get depleted twice, from blue to green, then from green to used-up. It's essentially like having 12 batteries, but the holder on your belt only shows 8.

Gotcha thanks.

Dime, no wonder you aren’t finding any koroks. It’s not that hard to not use the fast travel. I don’t understand that complaint. I hardly ever even ride a horse. I run everywhere. Tons of koroks and other stuff to find that way

Sounds like CT and I are taking the same approach. I’m trying to do everything before fighting the end boss. I’m just talking my time with it and enjoying roaming. Currently gathering materials and money to upgrade all of my armor. I still have a few random armor pieces to collect. And trying to collect all of the fabrics for the glider. I think i only need one more of those.

I just did the side quest where you fight the monsters in your underwear because some survey team members misheard the princess. Dumb but also kind of hilarious.

I wish you luck on acquiring Robbie's Fabric.
