I love that Stone says something, Jeff comes back with “we’re like halfway done” and Stone just doubles down.

:haha:

this is the part where Jeff finds out he was not present for half the sessions bc Watt played bass

Matt can’t wait to showcase all of his newest 4/4 tempo chlamydic-dick snare intros

100% hoping Ed keeps it at a lower register. But the “heaviest record in a while” doesn’t sound good. Why are these guys trying so hard to prove they can still “rock hard” in their near 60’s. I would be so happy with another No Code, Yield, or even better, a complete left turn where they try new things.

I'm excited. I for one do not think there's any reason an aging rock band can't play heavy rock music.

If it’s coming from an authentic place and is just plain good, then I’m for it. I just don’t feel like they’ve sounded great in recent years when they try too hard to sound “hard”. Like they’re trying to recapture an old sound but end up sounding like an approximation of what they were aiming for. I’m all for it if they pull it off though.

both of those records are heavier (in a good way) than most of their PRAMG work

where does 'quick escape' fall on pearl jam's "heavy songs" scale? 'take the long way'?

the first song on the new album will be fast, the last song will be slow, everything in between will be up and down. jeff will write something atmospheric. cameron will have a song with a stupid time signature. EV will have a shitty song he should have saved for his next solo album. stone will have a song that makes EV sound to breathe-y. mccready will shred. i wouldn't be shocked if watt performs and/or gets writing credit for something on here. samething with josh fruciante. boom will not on the album, but will tour and bring weed.

In terms of heaviness or in terms of quality?

For heaviness, I’d say TTLW is fairly heavy, but it’s not like Habit or NAIS; more like You Are.

I don’t find Quick Escape to be particularly heavy. It’s loud and it’s got an obvious Zep classic rock riff, but I find it to be very goofy due to the lyrics, and how that jam session kind of falls apart in its attempt to melt faces.

Oh yeah, I'm sure Watt gets his dream come true and plays on this record. I think that would be cool for him.

Accurate. That has been the track record for the past few records.

Agreed. It’s more what “heavy” sounded like on those albums. I prefer a “heavy” like brain of j. or DTE than SBWM.

yeah I see what you mean (I'm going for writing underneath the quote btw), personally I wish they'd write more mid-tempo chuggy heavy stuff

One of my favorite more recent heavier songs is Severed Hand :bammer:

Obviously YMMV, but that jam melts my face every time. That song got my girlfriend believing in Pearl Jam, and blows my mind every time I hear it.
