I goddamn adore this new record. I've only listened to it twice so far but I think it's only gonna keep getting better and better.

First listen this morning and I agree that it's fantastic. The non-single releases are great (King of Oklahoma really hits me) and yet another solid effort. I really loved Reunions and find myself listening to each album after Something More Than Free more and more.

I really like it. It's much better than Reunions (I didn't dislike Reunions but just never thought it was something on par with previous stuff). The songwriting is heavy and the music is what I like. I just love this guy. But yah, Here We Rest (about half the album)/Southeastern/Something More Than Free will never be topped.

Something More Than Free and Nashville Sound are my two favorites. I go back and forth on which is my favorite. Depends on the day. After two listens, this new one has a case for eventually making it to the #3 spot. We'll see how it ages. But I'm loving it right now.

Southeastern is an absolutely perfect album to me.

Still working my way toward loving that one. I know it's pretty consistently considered his best, and I do like it. But I think I like everything but Reunions more. Which is really more of a compliment to Jason and his incredible work than an indictment of Southeastern.

So crazy to me but that's music. Southeastern is just a masterpiece. Something More Than Free is as good but Southeastern has the specialness of being first, him becoming sober, and him not being "acclaimed" when he wrote it.

Could be that is because I heard SMTF first, then? I got into him later. Nashville Sound was the first one I heard. Either way. I love the shit out this guy. One of my all-time favorites now.

Looking at his discography...

1. Something More Than Free
2. The Nashville Sound
3. (Weathervanes) - this is premature but...
4. Here We Rest
5. Georgia Blue
6. Southeastern
7. Reunions
8. Sirens of the Ditch

And I just realized I haven't heard the self titled album from 2009.

He’s doing 8 shows at the Ryman in the fall. I may try to catch one.

They are amazing. Highly recommend. Do floor if you want to stand, everyone sits on balcony. I think the floor experience is better but I can also appreciate the seated experience as I get older.

His home theater? I thought he was from Alabama.

Best sound in the place is dead center in the balcony.

I have to say I’ve not been to many shows there that people are standing on the floor. The pews don’t make it very easy.
