One thing I dislike is something I disliked in BotW as well. To fully upgrade armor, you have to collect A LOT of shit. Not all of it is easy to come by. And now there are more armor sets.

Wait until you see the upgrade items for the armor you get for clearing all shrines.

I saved Hyrule...

I've been playing video games for 37 years and I won't hesitate to say that The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom is the best game that I've ever played.  I said that 6 years ago about BotW.  TotK surpasses BotW in every way.  I was nervous that TotK would be more gimmicky than BotW.  All of the new abilities perform perfectly.  Ascend, Fuse and Attach all feel perfect.  Better yet, all feel like Zelda.

I definitely performed better in TotK than in BotW.  I dominated combat, Shrines, Temples and everything else.  I solved every single Shrine puzzle and found every single Shrine chest without internet assistance.  I found 119 of 120 lightroots without assistance.

It was great that this game actually featured a legend of, you know, Zelda (was this the first time?).  The memories told her tale.  I enjoyed this story the most.

I think this Hyrule (BotW & TotK) is the best video game setting of all time.  I would welcome another adventure in this Hyrule.  Maybe add the ocean and let us navigate the many islands or additional continents out there. How incredible would it be to sail east from the east coast of Hyrule and a long, long time later arrive on the west coast of Hyrule.  That would be some world (I don't think an actual large-scale video game planet has ever been attempted).

I have a few minor, near trivial, complaints.  The low-gravity sections were unnecessary.   It simply seemed like a way to make sections easier to navigate.  Side Quests need better rewards - like heart pieces, stamina wheels, Blessing of Lights or Sage's Wills.  I love Zelda's side quests, hell, I've completed every single side quest in the franchise, but these are here mostly for the hell of it - they have little to no impact or quality of life improvement for the duration of the entire game.  Everything in the sky looked the same - there needed to be some sort of differentiation, especially, since the depths  looked identical everywhere.

Humble request - bring back the empty bottle.  This was one of the most essential items across the franchise.  This could determine how many elixirs (and maybe even meals) you could carry.

Bring on the DLC!

I just looked it up. Damn that fourth level. That is some badass looking armor though. I have six shrines to go

You probably know already but if you wear the full miner armour set in the depths, it leaves a trail of light behind you every few feet. Can’t establish if they’re permanent or not. Basically I fell asleep n just remembering now.

Great post, CT. This world truly has a sense of discovery that very few open world games can match.

I have one more shrine and can't find it, lol. I don't want to look it up. I'm almost positive it is in the sky though, because all of my lightroots and surface shrines match up.

Yeah, I'm all Zelda'd out. But I can't complain, as I have enjoyed at least 100 hours of game time. Comes out to about 60 cents an hour, which I'd say was worth it.

32 in sky. It's easier to count those.

I found it. It was the higher of the two in the Valor Island area.

There’s probably ten or 12 of those. I think most are in the sky but a few on the surface as well. Those are easy, dime. They just help you learn to build devices like the game intends you to. And then most of them are Rauru’s blessing so you don’t have to do anything when you unlock them

I’m focusing on fully upgrading the fierce deity and barbarian armor. Thinking about taking on the five lynels in the floating coliseum tomorrow. I wonder if there is a better combo:

Attack up armor with defense up meals
Defense up armor with attack meals
Attack/attack up for both
Defense/ defense up for both

I saved Hyrule on accident.

I did the lightning temple yesterday and then told myself I’d just do shrines until I did all I could without looking shit up. I really appreciate the way the light roots match up with the shrines. So I was doing that and got to 124 when I realized I had two shrines at Hyrule Castle and two blank spaces in the underworld that accounted for my two missing light roots. I went to the first one and then peaked over the edge and thought, maybe that’s where the shield is. It wasn’t. The farther down I went, the clearer it became where I was going. I could have fast-traveled out of there. But I also couldn’t. It suddenly felt like the right time.

And so it’s kind of over. Great story. Incredible voice acting. The Zelda voice will be definitive, I think.

I love Zelda. I actually started this thread. I wish I felt the way CT does about this game, but I just don’t. If BotW didn’t exist, I probably would. There are improvements for sure, but do you remember when you ran out of the cave at the beginning of BotW and looked over the horizon? That was like when Hulk Hogan body-slammed Andre the Giant in Wrestlemania 3. Chills. This game didn’t have that take my breath away moment. It was never going to.

I look forward to finding the rest of the shrines and exploring on foot. I have more shrines than Korok seeds! When I’m done with this one, I won’t go back to it and play through again like I did BotW. I do think I’ll be wandering a bit every day for the rest of the summer tho. I sure hope I can help that guy secure all those signs.

I often do that with those lazy ass Koroks. Oh, you’re just too tired? Fuck you, dude. I don’t need your seed. I have more strong zoanite shields than I know what to do with. I can’t get shut of ‘em.

One piece of advice before heading to Ganon - this isn’t story or fighting strategy spoiler:
Spoiler: show
Have lots of Sundelion meals. Or at least the potential to make them. I used portable pots after he whipped my ass a couple times.
