Its a shame because i liked The Flash enough, and i think Indy is actually a pretty good movie but with those numbers, it was kind of impossible for them to actually make a profit.

The Flash's budget isn't crazy. I mean it's very high, but it's not insane like Indy's. That's why Indy's going to be a bigger bomb overall.

I wouldn't be surprised if Flash was higher (off the books). It was in development for almost a decade. It was announced around the first episode of the CW show and came out after the ninth season. It went through multiple studio heads/rewrites/reshoots/reshuffles. I bet they spent insane amounts of money that wasn't included in the official numbers. Just the interest payments for all the years they sat on it. No one talks interest payments lol.

It's almost certainly higher than the official number but I don't think by much. Just about every project goes through several iterations of development but not every stage of the process involves spending a lot of money.

yeah they spent a lot more money in everything related to The Flash than Indy for sure. The whole project was doomed anyway and im glad the movie is out and i had so much fun with it.

The story of the early summer at the box office has been a story of disappointment. Little Mermaid, Flash, Indiana Jones, Pixar's Elemental: all under-performed.

So the narrative right now is: Hollywood is in trouble, big changes are bound to be right around the corner.

But the narrative is just a couple weeks away from changing. I predict July will be happy days.

Mission Impossible is going to make big bucks. Barbie will do great (I don't think I'll like it, tbh, but I think a lot of people are going to love it and I'm happy for them). I even think Oppenheimer is going to do well, for a serious movie aimed at adults.

Four weeks from now, the narrative won't be: Hollywood is dying, movie theatres are doomed, we'll never see another IP movie again. It's going to be all sunshine and rainbows. Just make good movies and the money will follow. Maybe superhero movies are dead

Forbes has been going through UK tax returns and figuring out the true spends on recent Disney movies. Pretty eye opening. Dr. Strange cost $100 million more than they said it did. I wonder if any of the Phase 4 movies did more than break even if they are under reporting budgets by 100's of millions of dollars. Sony kept most of the Spider-Man profits. Force Awakens cost $500 million lol. Even still that made money but did they spend that much on the others sequels? Rise would have lost money for sure. Crazy.

Whenever there's active promotion on the part of somebody else, whenever I see somebody all dolled up for a fancy photograph and someone's handing out flyers or whenever there's active promotion for something like that, as an imposition on my day, I hate all those people and I want them to fail. I have a visceral reaction to advertising and promotion. There's just something about salesmanship that grates on me on a very base level and I react very negatively towards it. I want those people to suffer and I want their enterprises to fail.
