Certain poster above has never watched temple of doom. Or selectively goes to the bathroom when the really bleak bits happen.

I would absolutely not call Temple of Doom "bleak"

Imagine being Harrison Fucking Ford and the last movie you make in your illustrious career is called “The Dial of Destiny”

Didn't realize this one was not being directed by Spielberg, nor was it even written by George Lucas. Just learned this

just came back. Liked it a lot. Its not perfect, some weird vfx and the de-aging is still not there, but Ford is amazing. waller-bridge is horribly miscasted and not funny at all, i kept imaging someone like Rachel McAdams there.

The movie will be divisive as fuck and i can see most people really hating the last half, which i loved because it really goes for it.

Lucasfilm's proprietary de-aging software is one of the worst.

Man those first 3 Indy movies were such a huge part of my childhood, but i havent been able to muster up much interest for this one. Might end up just waiting to watch it at home.

It was very good and I really enjoyed the third act. Certainly flawed but a much better note to go out on than Crystal Skull.

Other thoughts:
Spoiler: show
*No Paramount logo transition and no Indy fanfare at the end of the credits = unacceptable.

*The music was solid. I didn’t realize Williams came back to do it. Much like the Star Wars sequel trilogy, nothing really stood out, however. It felt thin. You could make a case that’s wholly appropriate in matching the tone and themes of the story with Indy a tired, old man at the end of his adventures.

*Seeing Indy go back in time to witness something representative of his life’s passion was a truly great plot choice, as was him wanting to stay in a perfect depiction of his obsession. So, too, was Helena knocking him out and bringing him back to reality to reunite with Marion and finally, perhaps, give up that obsession. I was delighted for the entirety of a sequence that feels like a worthy--albeit sentimental--capstone for the franchise.

*That last “Where doesn’t it hurt?” scene really did a number on me. Instant dust storm in the theater.

*It definitely needed some trimming. After the opening set piece, it dragged a bit.

*Waller-Bridge was great and never felt like an unnecessary sidekick as Shia did in Skull.

*Glad to see Sallah but making him a cliched NYC cab driver felt weird.

*The de-aging didn’t work. I’m fine with doing it in small doses but, until you can really pull it off convincingly, you need to avoid brightly lit scenes and extended, direct shots of the face.

It was the opposite for me in the second half. I'm glad you guys enjoyed it, but I doubt I have much desire to try it again.

Harrison should already sell the rights to his image and tell stories of a young Indiana using deepfake technology. For this kind of movies, actors are no longer needed.

I liked it, but I don’t know how rewatchable it will end up being. I can watch the original trilogy any time they’re on tv
