Just sitting down in the theater to watch Jaws. Somehow I've never seen this movie before.

I watched The Birdcage. I searched RM to see what people here had said about it. LV called it an "overrated sitcom." Love that boy but he had some real stinky takes. What a great movie, very clever and funny, amazing production design. Love the pastel pinks and purples of mid 90s Miami. Some of the sets are outrageous. An all-time great performance by Nathan Lane.

I was just looking yesterday at an interaction I had with LV where I was way too mean to him. Especially since now, reading it back, I think I agree much more with what he was saying than with what I was saying. He's a good guy

For a long time, people have complained that men who are criminally incapable of writing three-dimensional women characters are even still celebrated as great screenwriters and filmmakers. I'm happy to announce that society has progressed enough that now we are celebrating women even when they write men terribly.

Celine Song and Past Lives has proved this. She did not write the male version of a manic pixie dream girl. Instead, she wrote two insecure, needy men who are nevertheless eternally in love with, supportive of, and completely psycho-analytically understanding of her three-dimensional main female character.

I am being overly cruel, but I don't think this movie totally worked

Nathan Lane was indeed great in The Birdcage.

Had to help my daughter which woke up and had a slight fever, and then I fell asleep too. My wife did finish Moonlight. So I’ll watch the final hour alone today.

Finished Moonlight and my runthrough of 2016. Been fun.

Can understand why it won best picture that year. It’s a very solid story, well plaid with dfferent actors in the same role, and it shows social problems in a unique way. Really good movie.

Think 2016 was a great year for movies. Putting together a top ten list was tougher than usual.
