I think everyone progressed at the soft open except Carmy, who took any personal progress he made as the reason he got locked in the cooler. I could see him becoming the Joel Mchale chef he’s been haunted by.

I don’t know why this show hits me so hard but it’s fucking incredible. With Ted Lasso ending this is easily the best show on television right now.

Two questions about the finale I wanted to get everyone’s take on:

1. When Richie hops on expo and Animal is playing, Carmy is having flashbacks of his former exec. chef playing mindgames, with his voiceover playing over the current shot of the exec chef sitting at the booth looking smug. But there’s an edit, and all of a sudden the EC looks different — he has black hair and beard, maybe even a different actor, and now he looks pissed. And then his presence at the soft opening is never resolved. What’s everyone’s read on this?

2. Towards the end of the episode, it seems like everything has calmed down, yet the printer seems to be trying to print but it’s run out of tape. This is a small nightmare for anyone who’s worked in a kitchen. But Sydney seems calm, even relieved. Was she just like having ticket PSD or something? That was kind of my read but I wasn’t super confident in it.

1. Joel Mchale was not in the restaurant; Carmy pictured him there being smug about Carmy locking himself in the cooler. He represents judgment that Carmy has been trying to get out from under

2. I felt that was unresolved because nothing came of it in the kitchen, just her puking. I think it was PTSD from the online ordering episode in season 1, which gave me 2020 restaurant nightmares
