I am a sucker for a historical epic so I am very excited for this. I also love Joaquin and Ridley Scott.

My post... starts.... ... now:
It looks OK. I don't like how the accents are never appropriate for time/place in these kinds of movies. Joaquin just sounds like a normal american dude, and others sound brittish. Weird cover song choice. I bet it's just OK.

I mean, I'm not asking that everyone speak french, but can we at least get a little consistency? It's not that hard. The last duel was another example of this where it practically ruined the movie for me

These are supposed to be historically accurate movies. At least make a god damned attempt at an accent. They don't care, so I don't either. Imagine if Daniel Day Lewis just talks in his normal accent in There Will Be Blood.Ello Sailor wrote:As I said, weird hangups. Steve Albini wrote:Whenever there's active promotion on the part of somebody else, whenever I see somebody all dolled up for a fancy photograph and someone's handing out flyers or whenever there's active promotion for something like that, as an imposition on my day, I hate all those people and I want them to fail. I have a visceral reaction to advertising and promotion. There's just something about salesmanship that grates on me on a very base level and I react very negatively towards it. I want those people to suffer and I want their enterprises to fail.

I refuse to watch a movie that has a mournful rendition of some old pop song in the trailer. Which means I can never watch a movie again.

Actually that's The National Anthem by Radiohead. Not much of a pop song really. Definitely a weird cover choice though.bada wrote:I refuse to watch a movie that has a mournful rendition of some old pop song in the trailer. Which means I can never watch a movie again.

Representation matters. Give American accents roles in French epics. Don't be part of the problem bro.

nothing i read or heard about this movie suggests it's supposed to be an abstract interpretation loosely based on historical eventsNapoleon is an upcoming epic historical drama film directed and produced by Ridley Scott and written by David Scarpa. It is based on the true story of Napoleon Bonaparte, primarily depicting the French leader's rise to power as well as his relationship with Empress Joséphine.
