Re: Napoleon (Ridley Scott) - 11/22/23
The thing is, Ridley Scott would sell plenty of tickets from his name alone. I'd bet people would really appreciate a film with higher artistic integrity from him. Remember when Tarantino introduced Christoph Waltz to American audiences with Inglorious Bastards? Nobody cared they hadn't heard of him before because the performance is ultimately what matters.

Re: Napoleon (Ridley Scott) - 11/22/23
What's ultimately frustrating to me is Ridley Scott is obviously very talented. He just tends to pander to the lowest common denominator and the art suffers for it. What a waste.

Choosing what language to make a movie in and what accent your actors should have is difficult, but you're going over the top there, tree

Re: Napoleon (Ridley Scott) - 11/22/23
I'm not just referring to accents. He tends to hire popular actors of the day instead of talented ones, like Orlando Bloom in Kingdom of Heaven which made the movie irredeemable for me. Also weird comedic moments in The Martian come to mind. It's like he's afraid of losing the idiots so he panders to them. The Argonaut wrote:Choosing what language to make a movie in and what accent your actors should have is difficult, but you're going over the top there, tree

Perhaps you just have a different sensibility than he has, a different sense of humor. I think Ridley Scott's tendency is to make exactly the movie he wants to make and then whine and complain that kids these days are idiots when it doesn't make any money

Re: Napoleon (Ridley Scott) - 11/22/23
SW is completely fictional so it has the freedom to give any character whichever accent they please, but even then it should attempt to consistently correspond accents with locations.. I haven't cared to pay enough attention to a SW film to know whether or not they succeedCoach wrote:Why so many British accents in Star Wars???

It's widely considered a huge mistake to make everyone in the Prequels speak with a haughty British accent.

The answer in the question.
The empire is based on their empire. And they were evil bastards who did horrific shit to billions.
Some of them still are evil bastards.

The actual napoleon did that.
They gave up shooting when they weren’t making much of a dent but also running low on shot.
