Burt's instinct is right. There's no reason beyond Gen X nostalgia to see this
Gen X nostalgia is the only reason people hate this.

I have a visceral reaction to advertising and promotion. There's just something about salesmanship that grates on me on a very base level and I react very negatively towards it. I want those people to suffer and I want their enterprises to fail.

Movies based on existing intellectual property is like 98% of Hollywood right now
Sometimes it works. Many times it doesn’t.

But not all of it has so little to offer beyond "yeah, I liked this as a kid".

'based on existing IP' is not an automatic blanket indictment of a movie's lack of quality. Most "original" movies are sickeningly unoriginal, so I'm not at all troubled by another Dune adaptation or yet another Batman movie or a remake of the Toxic Avenger. Ambition and execution trump whether or not I've met these characters before

I'm glad if people like it, I just personally didn't get anything out of it. I'm also not at all a fan of the original movies. I think they're also about as cheap and lame as this one. That's why I suspect the note this is hitting with people is a nostalgic note. If I'm wrong, I'm wrong. Enjoy the new Indy movie. When they make a Mean Girls 2, you guys can make fun of me

I'm not big on the original Indy movies either. I agree that this one isn't all that different from any of them.

Me too.

But I also kinda liked the crystal skull.

But not as much as I liked Dial of Destiny

Which I didn’t like as much as any of the original trilogy
