The ArchAndroid is such an awesome fucking album. I'm excited for the next one. I love the single.
This was definitely the one that had the most people wanting to know what it was when I'd play it.

At the risk of this turning into a Janelle Monae thread (which is just fine by me):

Fuck it. I'm sure this officially pushes it over the edge, but it's too damn good not to share...

And I hate when people say this type of thing b/c it's pretentious and obnoxious and normally untrue, but here goes - she's not the type of artist you can digest in small servings. Honestly, listen to The ArchAndroid several times in a row and let it be the experience it's meant to be.
Then, if you don't like it, at least you tried being not uncool for a few hours.

Love Janelle Monae, that Letterman performance is what sold me on her. I worry she's a little too "weird" for this era of pop fans. I think her and Bruno Mars should be the big pop stars of now. She can bring it live, and she's got the looks but she definitely hides it a little bit cause she probably wants to be taken more seriously I guess.
DMC is a huge rock fan. He loves Neil Young and knows rock history quite well. That's the thing about the original rap stars, they really were rock guys and had that rebel spirit. I'm a big old school hip hop fan and it sucks watching rap become the materialistic competitve douchebag factory it is now. Run DMC and Public Enemy are my Ramones and Clash, respectively, and lead me to alt-rock. Love those guys. I hope/wish Jay Z continues to give them more and more due. They prove to me that rap and rock are not that different and shouldn't be put in competition with each other if they're done right.

I was watching that last Stargate show and she was playing at a club scene. By the time the episode was over I had her EP and got the CD when it was released. Looking forward to the new album.Lament wrote:Over the past few years I think her music has caused more people to come up to my booth while DJing to ask "Who was that last song by?" then pretty much any other artist I can think of. edit: watching that video for Tightrope, it makes me want a song or album with her and Kenna. I just feel like the sounds would compliment each other very well.

Hiphop / RnB / soul / reggae session drummers are always the best around.

So this was on last night. It's also available now on Showtime on Demand. Pearl Jam-wise, the beginning showed Jay-Z about to perform 99 Problems with the band, but they never showed the performance. Eddie had 2 interview segments, they showed a performance of Betterman and then later Corduroy.Pretty good over all. I enjoyed the Run-DMC stuff.

Re: Made in America doc (Showtime, Oct. 11)
I could not believe that they didn't come back to 99 Problems at the end in order to bookend the whole thing and reinforce the idea of genres blending together. Really dumb.Jefrey with One F wrote:So this was on last night. It's also available now on Showtime on Demand. Also, the less Jay-Z tries to sound profound, the better.
This was just okay. At least Janelle Monae got a bit of a showcase.
Professor evenslow gives this a C-. I'm sure Ron Howard is crying.

The whole film is streaming from a spammy video site - embedded on Spin's official website believe it or not...
