Why? If it's propaganda specifically aimed at children, I don't see what kind of movie could be more dangerous. A wolf in sheep's clothing.

I mean, it's a feminist movie with a feminist message made by feminists to promote feminism to girls and women. Are you not aware of that? The creators will tell you that. Are you really angry that Ben Shapiro is pointing that out? No, I think you're mad that he is not a feminist. At least understand why you are angry with him!

Tree, why do you find a feminist message in a movie to be an inherently bad thing?

I think any ideology aimed at children is a bad thing. It's called brainwashing. Children are stupid and will believe anything you tell them.

Also, was anyone expecting Greta Gerwig's Barbie to not have a feminist message?

isn't choosing to raise your children a certain way not brainwashing too?

Do you also take issue with Pixar's movies? They all have messages.

There is a way to subtly teach them about ideas, to not ram down their throats strict sets of ideologies and allow them to learn as much about the world as possible so they can make up their own minds as adults.

Yeah kids have to be brainwashed by something. One should at least be wary of brainwashing with hundreds of millions of dollars behind it though. If the mainstream is promoting it, is probably not as revolutionary as it advertises itself. Greta Gerwig isn't some rebel taking on the institutions here.

But then Ben Shapiro is the other half of that machine, telling you the real problem is something that isn't actually the real problem.

Enjoy the show!

Right. Because releasing a movie that you have to choose to see and choose to pay money for is ramming it down their throats.

The main goal of the movie is to sell toys.

Im guessing Mattel knows that these days you can do it faster with a movie with this plot.
Still, its a very safe movie for everyone to see.

Rocky 4 had a very stupid USA vs RUSIA setup and i didnt see any right wing guys setting themselves on fire because of it.

I definitely felt like I could end the cold war if I could just get into a boxing match with a Russian after watching that though.

Depends on the brand of feminism I think. I haven't seen this one, but I assume it's part of a brand of feminism I find repugnant (and dominant), but I don't know. At least it sounds like it has the decency to be made well! If only right wing artists still had the ability to make their propaganda with the same skill!

Really I think it just sounds like a shitty movie that didn't do what it set out to do well. But on top of that I think it's irresponsible to put this kind of messaging into a Barbie movie. It's like making a Ninja Turtles movie about how boys are superior to girls. Just fucked up.

.
That's kind of an even better argument for why it's dangerous. Look at our generation and it's dumb Star Wars brains! A whole generation lost to toy sellers!

Stream it when it's up on Max and see what you think. I think you'll find that everyone is getting their panties in a bunch over a fairly benign message.

You have a very strong opinion about this movie you haven't seen. I wonder what it is about this one in particular that got you all riled up...
