I have a question. As we know they talked about two recording sessions with a long void in between. Which songs were in the first and which in the second "half"?
So far I have the sense that LB is an almost 50/50 album and if I had a, let's say chronicle, it could help to see if this is another reason for that sense.

The Holy Bible by Manic Street Preachers is pretty permanently #1, and has been for like fifteen years. I've probably got 6-8 albums that routinely rotate in and out of my top five, but the three that are most likely to be in there at any given moment in time along with The Holy Bible and Vitalogy would be Nevermind the Bollocks Here's the Sex Pistols, Nebraska by Bruce Springsteen, and probably Stories From the City, Stories From the Sea by PJ Harvey. If I'm being really bluntly honest though, Everything Must Go (also by the Manics) would be in there too, but I tend to exclude it for variety's sake.

So here's my Pearl Jam related statement of the night that will no doubt be vehemently disputed by plenty of others...


Vitalogy is underrated by the Pearl Jam fanbase as a whole.

I don't care if it's their most popular album among die-hard fans. I don't think most fans realize what a disgustingly brilliant piece of work it is. I think that's part of what keeps it from earning it's rightful place among the albums that you should expect to see in any random "Top 100 Albums" of all-time type of list that tend to only feature Ten. I can understand personally preferring other albums for any number of reasons, but as a singular, start-to-finish statement, executed perfectly, Vitalogy stands head and shoulders above everything else they've ever done. It is instant, catchy, twisted, challenging, dark, passionate, and indifferent, oftentimes simultaneously.

If I was to listen to my first Springsteen album in full since Human Touch, should it be Nebraska?

Darkness on the Edge of Town or Born to Run are probably easier first steps.
