There’s a typhoon here now, and my wife is in the spa. So watching The Magnificent Ambersons for the first time.

Re: What movies are you watching?
Welles was probably screwed while making this, as the studio cut 50 minutes of the movie. The end result is good, but fails to reach the pinnacle of movies at the time. It’s an interesting story, if a bit too predictable and cliche. Certainly well acted. Glad I’ve seen it. Will see it again.

American Sniper. I remember this was a big deal when it came out but I never watched it. Eastwood is much less popular these days, huh? I liked Gran Torino enough but thought it was overrated. Million Dollar Baby, similar. I like his minimalist style enough. We'll see if this movie was worth the hype.

Watched the latest Puss-n-boots the other night. Good movie but nowhere near as good as the first one. The anime-style fight scenes were a little weird.

yeah, I'm not a big fan of this one.. there's something that feels cheap or amateurish about it.. like some important corners were cuttree_ wrote:American Sniper. Also, the whole celebrating-being-a-chode-in-a-faraway-land in the first act, and the 180 of "never mind, war is hell -- even ones we needlessly inject ourselves into". Seemed like a really tacky, self-congratulatory puff piece to me.

Re: What movies are you watching?
Over the weekend I watched
Transformers - Rise of the Beasts. This was much better than I was expecting
Barbie. This too surprised me, and I quite enjoyed it
Dungeons and Dragons. This was pretty average
The Blackening. Great movie - really enjoyed this

I watched the Haunted Mansion movie. I dunno, it's very much a movie for young children. Not much good or bad to say. There's a charm to it, but it's got that gross ultra-corporate slickness too.

Saw it yesterday. Hated it. So boring. The Burger King scene was gross. I agree thats a movie for little children but still, very very boring..Jorge wrote:I watched the Haunted Mansion movie. We shouldn't have watched it. It makes no sense that we watched it. I only did it 'cause I wanted to go to the Alamo Drafthouse and it was the only screening time that worked for me.

I feel like I remember reading somewhere the current flood of Disney movies about securing IP more than reinvigorating the brand, so this tracks.Jorge wrote:Well, there was an incredible amount of product placement
