I'm here for a family reunion upstate, just spending a couple days in the city visiting friends before driving up. And watching Back to the Future: the Musical

went for an early morning walk, then shopping for flooring…we’re going to take the carpet out of our bedroom, and put down tile or vinyl planks. I hate carpet.

Tonight, we’ll go to one of our favorite drink spots with some friends.

It is gross. My wife wants the dog to sleep in our room. I said I’d be happy to let the dog sleep in our room if we removed the carpet and put down an alternative. I don’t want to clean up crap or puke on carpet, and the dog has already puked in our room once.

I don’t mind carpet in the bedroom, but I also don’t have dogs. Carpet is just a magnet for allergens, dust, and any thing the dogs might carry (including dander and oils). Hard floor is a good call. Though with the dogs (depending how big they are), I might recommend getting some area carpets they can walk on. Easily cleanable or replaceable, and — if you or the wife are light sleepers — it will help from hearing their claws walking around the hard floor in the middle of the night.

We had an issue last year with some water leaking from the bathroom and into our master closet, also carpet. I don’t want to deal with water potentially ruining hardwood. And while I do love hardwood floors they’re expensive.

Just tile a bunch of these rugs together. If one gets ruined you just replace it and the rest is fine.

Laminate flooring, like Pergo, hold up to a fair amount of abuse without the initial expense plus you can fix smaller portions if necessary.
