I haven't heard a lot of Ethel Cain but I love what I've heard; "Sun Bleached Flies" had me in tears

Re: Albums of 2023
The new Carly Rae Jepsen album is WEIRD. I mean, as weird as you can reasonably expect a pop album of this type to be -- yes, it is very hooky and fairly accessible. But it has weird dissonances, odd sounds, interesting rhythmic flourishes, cool polyrhythms, hyperpop influences, hanging bars, modal switching, super lush production. But it still has CRJ's typically open-hearted delivery and giddy emotion at its score. I am really, really enjoying it

Re: Albums of 2023
I mean she's not suddenly Carly Rae Björksen, but it's just left of center and spicy enough that coupled with her usual pure-sugar approach it makes a really satisfying mix

Dissonance and polyrhythms in pop. This might be an album we can all agree on for once.
