This is the problem. Because it's not due until the end of the month I feel the stress but convince myself I can keep waiting to get started. If I wait too long though it's only going to get harder and more stressful. I will definitely get started in 10 minutes and then I will feel better about the whole thing.

actually people aren't saying "vernacular" anymore, it's now "common parlance"

Divide how long you think it’ll take by the amount of days til deadline, then do that much each day. Break it up into a less intimidating project.

This is like the 4th year I'm doing this project on my own, and I know I can complete it in like 5 very stressful days if I have to. But it's better to get started now, definitely. Especially in case my boss asks me about the progress details. I've had until the beginning of last month to get started and I've already waited until now to fully feel the pressure.

Some people around here get upset when PJ takes too long to make an album.

I can't take my coffee with me, so I'm going to drink it for the next 10-20 minutes and then get started

OK. I care about my job and my family's financial security. I am a responsible person. I am going to get started. Right now. Right... now. I'm off!

Or just blow it off and when the higher ups wonder why it isn’t complete, just blame it on one the black guys that work there.

Tree this is something that I've struggled with my entire life. Sometimes it feels like there's an invisible force field keeping me from getting started on a task, and then when I finally do it feels like my attention is pulled in 50 different directions and completing the task takes a Herculean effort. Last year I had a neurocognitive evaluation and was diagnosed with adult ADHD. It helps to know what the problem is so it can be properly treated. Even if your thing isn't a neurotransmitter issue, cognitive behavioral therapy is probably a good idea.

thanks for sharing, brother

oh man, I just ain't got the time or energy for "therapy" (textbook avoidant personality trait, apparently)

It's just something I have to struggle through every year and I hate it, but when I'm finished I feel better. I'll get it done well enough and the remaining tasks for the rest of the year are a breeze.

if I ever seriously drop the ball and shit hits the fan I'd probably seriously consider a diagnosis and therapy
