I'm still waiting to get my hands on a physical copy... So I won't listen until Tuesday, at the earliest.

In all honesty, the show was great. There was an intensity last night that I haven't seen from them in many years. I didn't get the "party/celebration" vibe that has been present over the last few tours.

As for the new songs, it's tough to have an opinion on one listen. That being said, pendulum sounded amazing, and I really liked infallible too.

Lightning bolt and my fathers son, I have no opinion right now because, I don't know if the sound was poor, or the mix, but both songs just seemed like a wall of noise to me. I couldn't pick out any nuances of the songs.

Yellow moon seemed pretty good, and I don't get all the hate for future days, it seemed nice enough. The only one I was lukewarm about was swallowed whole. And I thought sirens sounded great in a live setting. Very similar to the video version.

So I'm anxiously awaiting listening to the studio album

I'm still just really happy that I like the whole album.
Spoiler: show
I prepared myself for a few stinkers but I don't think anything qualifies for that category.

However, if I had to pick my least fav right now, I don't get all the love for yellow moon. I find it a little boring and uneventful. If there's any song from the new album that I really want to hear live it's YM because I'm hoping it will jump up a notch for me as a lot of songs do after I experience it live.

Infallible is another one that I think will improve for me once I hear it live. That chorus is going to sound great live.

I've actually seen more dislike for yellow moon then i thought i would see. I've loved it from first listen, but i can't really explain why, it just works really nicely for me. I hope it grows on you :D

I was listening to Porch earlier, thinking this is not really a finised song, but it's full of atmosphere and that's why we loved it. They're entirely different, but this one reminds of that quality; it's a structurally very basic song with nothing much to it, but with the lyrical content and the atmosphere, it's lifted to something much more.

What feels unfinished about Porch to you? I actually think Porch is structurally interesting. I like how the rest of the band makes their entry on a pre-chorus that leads not to the chorus but back to the verse. The intro is immediate, the verses are intense, the choruses are passionate and catchy, with neither quality being sacrificed in any quantity for the sake of the other. The bridge/breakdown feels organic and doesn't drag on too long (like it can at times live), and the outro is one of the finest examples of everyone in the band firing on all cylinders at the same time. This is one of the quintessential five star Pearl Jam songs for me, and the song on Ten that most hints at the heights they'd be capable of reaching over the next few records.

It's a short verse 1, intro, short verse 2, chorus. It might even be one verse in two short halves. It's a great chorus, but after that chorus (at 1:22), it goes into a minute-long wanky solo (literally, till 2:22) until the second chorus, outro (some "yeah-heah-heah") and then end. It's all very entertaining but the live version, with its extended solo portion, only goes to prove it as the excuse for a solo that it is (much like the live version of RVM, although the studio version is more tightly structured than Porch). I really enjoy Porch, but it's probably my least favourite song on Ten due to the fact that there's so little to it. The long solo portion is nicely composed, and I like the fact that it has a new chord structure, but I'm not really a solo guy, so I switch off there until the chorus comes back in.

Midnight is almost here. I'll either stay awake all day and reach for a psychotic summit or sleep the day away.

Read me Jim Morrison poetry in your best Pee wee Herman voice but don't withhold Lightning Bolt from me another day!

I thought you had the album by now, no? I've seen you posting about it in other threads.

I haven't yet. I'm going hiking tomorrow and then picking up the CD on the way home. I haven't heard any of the live versions yet either. I'm still more excited about the new Arcade Fire, but I'm warming up to the idea of new PJ too.

Please lock this thread. Avoiding the album at this point borders on pretentiousness.

My copy just got here. I'm leaving the club as we speak. It's been fun. I'll let you know in a week or so if I wish I had stayed in it forever...

I'm about to dive in too. It's a rainy day, house to myself...perfect for a first complete listen.

I'm hoping we can keep this thread alive to capture the NLC reviews. i'll be sure to report back tomorrow after a solid 24hrs with the album.

Time to find out what all this Sirens debate is about...

Probably not an entire week, but I tend to refrain from sweeping statements about an album till I can give it several start-to-finish listens over a few days. Unless it's something that I can't even bring myself to get through that many times (but I managed to do it for Backspacer, so I'm sure I can do it for LB). I'll probably make some snarky comments about it on twitter, though, just to piss some people off.
