Whenever there's active promotion on the part of somebody else, whenever I see somebody all dolled up for a fancy photograph and someone's handing out flyers or whenever there's active promotion for something like that, as an imposition on my day, I hate all those people and I want them to fail. I have a visceral reaction to advertising and promotion. There's just something about salesmanship that grates on me on a very base level and I react very negatively towards it. I want those people to suffer and I want their enterprises to fail.

Thinking about Gummo again (thanks RM! ) and I think there's an obvious link between that and Beau is Afraid. Both are petulant films made my directors in a bod mood who want to piss all over the people watching it. They're both super mean spirited. I wonder if all of the movies I hate with a burning passion have that quality...

But it's hard for me to think of a ton of movies that I flat out hate. So, I don't know.

Whiplash is my go-to here. To me, that movie has always been about the tremendous power of hate. It's more powerful even than love, even when your goal is to better yourself or to create something beautiful.
