I'm very much in the fuck Russia camp*

We maybe could have avoided this conflict had we acted differently 20 years ago. How can we end it today? If the US pushed a color revolution on Ukraine and control it, seems simple. If the Ukrainians have agency, It's not clear how to proceed.

*Their frozen conflicts in Transnistria or South Ossetia or wherever or their peacekeeping in Armenia have fuck all to do with their strategic position. They like fucking with their former satellites for no clear reason other than to show they can. Blowing up ammo dumps in the Czech Republic so they can't supply Ukraine? Sounds Article 5 shit to me.

My sister in law visited Ukraine this month. Her parents are in their 70s, have been through a lot, and now live in a small apartment near the Romanian border. It's about as far from the war as you can get. Yet, she could not sleep at night, because there were constant air sirens. It was the first time she has been back, since last year's invasion. Very tough for her, but she was happy to meet her parents again.

I dont have the numbers but they’re minuscule in the big picture
Our government have asked the Ukrainian government to tell refugees to stop coming here.
As the only accommodation they can now provide is tents, in fields that they’ve arranged to be left standing with festival organisers now that festivals season is over.
Ukrainian families have also been removed from student accommodation/apartment blocks as college season has kicked off again

We have around 100,000 homeless people (13,000 actively homeless on street or in emergency accommodation , the rest couch surfing and unable to afford rents and mortgages) -hidden honeless)and we have nearly 90,000 Ukrainian refugees.
(A larger amount of refugees from other countries and growing daily)
But we’re basically out of places to house people.
All while 300,000 empty derelict homes across the country.

Our government using this crisis to let it all fall to crap and act as a push factor to stop refugees of all kinds coming here.

It’s just bonkers.
Calibrate your enthusiasm

Hard to feel comfortable in such a setting, but reuniting is a good thing. I wish them more luck ahead, Anders.
