By choice yes. I think the one could have made the team but kinda felt bad if the other didn’t. So he opted out.

Going forward though I think this will be a good example - they need to forge their own paths.

My kid likes to open doors for me and happily say “after you” and by golly if I don’t feel like the most special dad in the world.

We are close with a group of four other families with children the same age as my oldest. It's been very fun to have this cohort of parents to go through the journey together the past 6+ years.

We're getting to the point where our kids are branching off into different activities, qualifying for different things, exploring new interests, etc. Part of me is kind of sad that we won't be as close, but another part of me knows this is a natural thing and I should be open to meeting new parents and kids.

Similar experience here (going back a couple years) and I was glad to branch out honestly.

Grew tired of our initial infant/toddler group.

Do you know the worst thing about having kids?

Board games designed by children.
Everything's perfectly all right now. We're fine. We're all fine here, now, thank you. How are you?

Oh. I thought it was the deep, entrenched, relentless guilt that you may possibly be failing them in some way with every single decision that you make.

Took the kid to meet the teacher day this morning. She was super pumped; really excited for this next chapter and see her grow exponentially.

Of course my biggest worry is how the drop off/pick up line works.

O, I got a zoo, I got a menagerie, inside my ribs, under my bony head, under my red-valve heart—and I got something else: it is a man-child heart, a woman-child heart: it is a father and mother and lover: it came from God-Knows-Where: it is going to God-Knows-Where—For I am the keeper of the zoo: I say yes and no: I sing and kill and work: I am a pal of the world: I came from the wilderness.

It’s odd that this is such a common source of parenting stress
I think it’s a combo of it being impossible to understand until it’s actually experienced, and also like the one new thing that day that is on the parent and not the kid, so don’t fuck it up. Lots of misplaced anxiety.
