Do any of you guys still listen to this man's music? I know I sure do.

Re: Elliott Smith
He's been popping up a lot in the warehouse recently on random, I gather he'd be good train music.zeb wrote:Do any of you guys still listen to this man's music? I know I sure do.

I have that show but there really is a wealth of brilliance that you haven't exposed yourself to yet, MadTIGERmaN.

I got the discog at some point zeb, where do you suggest I start? Mind you, I do commute by train so I can get a full album or two in a day.

Not since I was 16. Such a depressing chap.

Re: Elliott Smith
Figure 8 is my go-to Elliott Smith record. When I don't know which one to listen to, I grab that one. But Eitehr/Or is probably my personal favorite. But I harbor zero ill will for anyone who favors XO or From a Basement On The Hill.

Re: Elliott Smith
Misguided preconceptions had me anticipating a lo-fi affair with XO but the production is quite sharp and the harmonies early in the record were a pleasant surprise. Looking forward to some future spins and now, other albums.

You're rather fluent in billtop in your old age, zeb.

Re: Elliott Smith
<3 One of my favorites! Much like Pearl Jam, I can't rank the albums. All great and each holds special meaning to me in some way.

Re: Elliott Smith
I like his self-titled one, Either/Or and From a Basement on a Hill quite a lot.
I've never much cared for his two major label records (XO and Figure 8).
New Moon has some great stuff on it, I really like this one in particular:

Re: Elliott Smith
His self-titled album is vastly underrated. Even by hardcore fans, I think. Even by myself. I love that album, but I almost never put it on. Stupid. It's a great album.
