It’s odd that this is such a common source of parenting stress
I think it’s a combo of it being impossible to understand until it’s actually experienced, and also like the one new thing that day that is on the parent and not the kid, so don’t fuck it up. Lots of misplaced anxiety.
Two different families transferred their kids to two different preschools when our preschoolcut back their extended hours, and they both said that the pickup/drop off car lines at the new schools have ruined any chance of forming an organic community with the other parents.
I get it. It’s a spacial/logistical necessity in the big city, however.

That being said, in her grade at least, you can park and come into the class 30 min before school, and also pick up involves waiting in the lobby cafe with other ‘rents, so there should be opportunities to form bonds.

I have 3 kids in middle and high school. I've spent zero seconds pondering impact of drop off and pick up procedures on the education process.

My only critique ever was, "Jesus! Fuck this line."
Everything's perfectly all right now. We're fine. We're all fine here, now, thank you. How are you?

I will never understand the able-bodied weirdos that sit in a car pick-up line for 30-45 minutes to get their kid from school when a park and walk up option exists. The latter takes 5-10 minutes at most.

We're waiting til our kid is 6 years old to start school. Research show it's the best age for future success.

It really depends on the kid. When is your oldest's birthday?

Jul 31st. He'll probably be oldest in his class. Our other one is Nov. 4. Haven't made a decision on him yet.
