It would probably just be a broad conversation of human evolution and they'd probably come to the same conclusion I did. I want to know what you think.

How would you feel about me changing my last name to my wife's? Her name is way cooler than mine, and we both value it much more. For instance, I don't talk to my dad anymore, and he was adopted. It wasn't even actually his "real" blood last name. So nobody I care about even has my last name, except for me and my kids. But we can change the kids' names too before they start school. And we both really admire her family and the history of its name. But I know there will be societal pushback because I took my wife's last name. That's the only thing holding me back really.

If you don’t mention it, how would people know?

People who know me -- coworkers, family, neighbors -- would know. If everyone were strangers I wouldn't hesitate.

Go for it tree_. Societal norms just don't matter that much, so long as you aren't hurting anyone.

Go for the cool name. You're basically playing an RPG at this point anyway.

I wish I could share with you the name. It's so cool. I've never had a cool last name. And oh man is my last name lame.

I was really expecting you guys to push back hard on this idea. Was prepping my psyche for insults, even, like "beta move", especially from Ello. I might actually do it.

Maybe I will share my new last name to increase my odds. I haven't even been nominated yet with my current last name.

It seems like you used to be more cold and callous. Have you warmed up in the last year or so or is it just my perception? That's a good question for the Ask RM thread.
