The non inclusion of Better Man (live) keeps it from being their Abbey Road.

Has anyone tried putting the CD in their stereo and rewinding track one? Maybe Better Man (Live) is one of those hidden tracks that is stashed before the first song.

Not relevant to the music, or some terrible betrayal of character. It's more like Ed's boot rage or Stone's stylistic similarities to DJ Lance from Yo Gabba Gabba.

Yup. I empathise with the arguments about this band selling out. It's always fun to join in. But I didn't really get into them for their unrivalled ethics and indie cred. That was a road they travelled for a while and I enjoyed it, but it wasn't what this band was early on, and I never expected it to be what the band would always be.

What's funny is that the band are the ones responsible for getting the fanbase to believe that it was such an integral part of who they are/were. It ended up being so important to a lot of the fans because Pearl Jam was pretty insistent about how important it was to them.

Yeah, I guess so. I was always sceptical of that, simply because of how bloody large their fanbase was. It was world-wide, not "cult". Also, for their entire career they've been entertaining the idea of classic rock / HoF tradition whilst talking about ethics. There was always this paradoxical, contradictory tug-of-war going on between the quiet, ethical indie band and the rock gods who were friends with Springsteen, Uncle Neil, The Who and Bono. When a band becomes famous enough and achieves that kind of status, some of them are going to say "Yes please." I don't think they've done a 180 as much as just close the gap on their confusing bipolar approach (which, let's face it, has split fans down the middle on every record).

Theres also a interview somewhere where ed mentions maybe adding a couple of dollars onto ticket prices to give to various charities instead of speechifying the crowd and trying to convince them to give the money themselves

There was that whole shitting on girls heads thing, and theres a boot somewhere where after a song he screams "Too much time betweens songs and can i get some fucking lights please" into the mike, which sounded beautifully diva-ish.
