I also think such a hypothetical situation would be a clear indication of the extent to which this has become a vehicle for Eddie to completely drive the bus.

So what are your feelings towards the recording of I Got Shit?tragabigzanda wrote:I draw the line at any producer supplanting the role of a core bandmember through some sort of scheduling/workflow trickery.wease wrote:So it’s Andrew Dink’s participation at which you draw the line?tragabigzanda wrote:Yeah but he still played guitar on Smile, and his bass part was replaced by another band member.wease wrote:As opposed to No Code?tragabigzanda wrote:If this Andrew dink is playing bass on any song, and Jeff is nowhere to be found on the track, then the band I love is officially done.
And while it’s not WW3, I don’t take this even a little lightly. For Andrew or any other producer to elbow his way onto a record without allowing a core member — whose legacy and financial compensation are tied to the band — to be part of the conversation would be an indication of said producer’s desire to direct the band towards his self-serving vision rather than serving a functional role as an objective support mechanism.
Probably it’s not the case; I’m not gonna take one RM post and run with it. But hypothetically speaking, if Andrew shows up on a bass track and Jeff is nowhere to be found on the song, that would be kind of gross. If the same happened and the royalties actually went to Andrew and not Jeff, that would be very gross.
Let me tell you, Homer Simpson is cock of nothing!

Totally different because it was an outgrowth of what was organized and billed as a Neil Young productwease wrote:So what are your feelings towards the recording of I Got Shit?tragabigzanda wrote:I draw the line at any producer supplanting the role of a core bandmember through some sort of scheduling/workflow trickery.wease wrote:So it’s Andrew Dink’s participation at which you draw the line?tragabigzanda wrote:Yeah but he still played guitar on Smile, and his bass part was replaced by another band member.wease wrote:As opposed to No Code?tragabigzanda wrote:If this Andrew dink is playing bass on any song, and Jeff is nowhere to be found on the track, then the band I love is officially done.

Re: 12th album rumors and speculation
But how do you know BoB didn’t play bass on it due to some scheduling chicanery? How do you think Jeff felt when Ed said, “hey, got a great new tune. It’s fucking awesome. Don’t worry, Brendan already cut the bass part.”tragabigzanda wrote:Totally different because it was an outgrowth of what was organized and billed as a Neil Young productwease wrote:So what are your feelings towards the recording of I Got Shit?tragabigzanda wrote:I draw the line at any producer supplanting the role of a core bandmember through some sort of scheduling/workflow trickery.wease wrote:So it’s Andrew Dink’s participation at which you draw the line?tragabigzanda wrote:Yeah but he still played guitar on Smile, and his bass part was replaced by another band member.wease wrote:As opposed to No Code?tragabigzanda wrote:If this Andrew dink is playing bass on any song, and Jeff is nowhere to be found on the track, then the band I love is officially done.

FWIW Brendan O'B's bass playing on I Got ID is some of the best bass playing on any Pearl Jam track.tragabigzanda wrote:I bet Jeff was pissed, and it’s perhaps the first episode of why BOB sucks

Re: 12th album rumors and speculation
i get the sense from Jeff’s interview w/ Stone about Yield, and the fact PJ started the No Code sessions without Jeff, and the vibe of Eddie and the Pearl Jams ever since Ed dragged Boom back from vacation to play with the band, that Jeff has been the least important member to have in the studio, when he is there his musical ideas are the most likely to be ignored or re-written, and he just accepts his role at this point as a ‘potential’ album contributor as opposed to a required member of the band. With the exception of 1-2 songs per album, PJ machinery just steamrolls Jeff. As a root note expert, with no mass media or popular appeal, he knows inside that he is replaceable and should just be happy he still gets a royalty check rather than a pink slip over frittatas ala Dave A. He’s a whiny bitch and his solo albums do nothing to enhance his provenance. He should just marry Lance Mercer and end the charade. Then maybe finally Ed will need to respect him, otherwise he’ll get cancelled. Until then, just expect him to slowly fade away and be replaced at any time by Josh ‘Slam Poetry Triangle Expert’ K aka J Kling the guanxi king

Every time I hear what Jeff plays on it live, it just sounds wrong.Farmer John wrote:FWIW Brendan O'B's bass playing on I Got ID is some of the best bass playing on any Pearl Jam track.tragabigzanda wrote:I bet Jeff was pissed, and it’s perhaps the first episode of why BOB sucks

mike's guitar solos are also inferior... he sounds like a kindergartener vs. what Neil laid down in the studiowease wrote:Every time I hear what Jeff plays on it live, it just sounds wrong.Farmer John wrote:FWIW Brendan O'B's bass playing on I Got ID is some of the best bass playing on any Pearl Jam track.tragabigzanda wrote:I bet Jeff was pissed, and it’s perhaps the first episode of why BOB sucks

Mike's great, but I think I Got Shit is the best guitar solo in the pearl jam catalog.
