a personal plea to VinylGuy: you should watch The Father, the movie with Anthony Hopkins and Olivia Colman. The marketing makes it look like Oscar-bait weepy bullshit, but it is not that at all. It's full of terrific performances, it's extremely playful with time and perception, it has horror movie elements, it's just really really good

Yeah, The Father was great. It was very effective in making me terrified about getting dementia.

The upcoming release of Ferrari starring Adam Driver directed by Michael Mann is sure to result in a surge of interest for house of Gucci starring Adam Driver directed by Ridley Scott

I watched a scene of Bob Odenkirk's remake of The Room, where they shoot the original script but playing it completely straight, with Bob in Tommy Wiseau's role. I didn't think it sounded good until I saw that scene. I get it now. I can't wait to watch the whole thing.

I also saw a scene on youtube (rooftop scene). Does look fun for a few minutes but I don't think I'd watch the whole movie.

What is the oldest movie you're confident at least 80% of people aged 14-17 would enjoy?

Steve Albini wrote:Whenever there's active promotion on the part of somebody else, whenever I see somebody all dolled up for a fancy photograph and someone's handing out flyers or whenever there's active promotion for something like that, as an imposition on my day, I hate all those people and I want them to fail. I have a visceral reaction to advertising and promotion. There's just something about salesmanship that grates on me on a very base level and I react very negatively towards it. I want those people to suffer and I want their enterprises to fail.
