Accelerated virtual degrees ltowards a living wage? Nah, let's just let the low-income people get stoned more easily and put the taxes towards tax rebates.
why is it dumb? b/c there are other ways to generate tax revenue? i would say generating tax revenue while also correcting ridiculously out of date marijuana laws is the opposite of dumb.
Because the blanket legalization without any sort of real enforcement of safe driving, access for minors, operation of heavy equipment, etc. is not prudent. I'm all for "correcting ridiculously out of date marijuana laws," but there's a big gap between decriminalization and open-door legalization that hasn't been enacted anywhere in the US, to the best of my knowledge (setting aside medical use programs.)
every state that has legal marijuana has age restrictions. I agree there needs to be a better way to test people driving under the influence, but again, we need to be able to study it w/o it being a schedule 1 drug

I didn't say anything about this, but while we're on the subject, you can buy an ounce for $80 in CA now. That's pretty fuckin' cheap.
this you?

my point is legalization isn't "dumb", and most of the reasons you think it is are addressed during the legalization process. the only solution to any of this is to declassify it federally. in fact the whole scheduling of drugs should be changed
Schedule I

Schedule I drugs, substances, or chemicals are defined as drugs with no currently accepted medical use and a high potential for abuse. Some examples of Schedule I drugs are: heroin, lysergic acid diethylamide (LSD), marijuana (cannabis), 3,4-methylenedioxymethamphetamine (ecstasy), methaqualone, and peyote.

Schedule II

Schedule II drugs, substances, or chemicals are defined as drugs with a high potential for abuse, with use potentially leading to severe psychological or physical dependence. These drugs are also considered dangerous. Some examples of Schedule II drugs are: combination products with less than 15 milligrams of hydrocodone per dosage unit (Vicodin), cocaine, methamphetamine, methadone, hydromorphone (Dilaudid), meperidine (Demerol), oxycodone (OxyContin), fentanyl, Dexedrine, Adderall, and Ritalin
OxyContin has done more harm to the country than any of the other drugs listed here, wtf are we doing?

Agree. I also think there is sometimes push back from those who see criticism of current legalization laws as indirectly advocating for re-criminalization, which it is not.

I haven't smoked in about 6 months now but when I did I was using medical marijuana. That shit is STRONG. I'm actually pro legalisation but decided it's just not for me anymore.

I can't see it becoming legal here in Aus (bar medical) for at least another 10 years though.

Weed seems to be totally inflation proof. It’s cheaper now than it was 30 years ago.

the culture seems lost

you used to have to work through the underground to get it

and only certain people knew about it and did it

and it was a window into a subculture

and a different way of thinking

now it's just another way for people to damage themselves

I agree with everything that is being said here. I quit two years ago.

Smoking is easily the best way to use it. But you and everything around you will stink. And if the smallest amount of resin winds up in your laundry, your dryer and clothes will smell like burnt brownies dipped in dog shit for months. Plus it's a pain in the ass.

Vaping and edibles are easy and non-stink, but it's way too strong and unpredictable, and you wind up randomly paranoid and challenged. All the fun is gone and it just feels wrong.

Plus it's still illegal where I live even though the states around us for thousands of miles have legalized it, because we are now the reddest derp state around.

Super glad I don't have to hang with stinky drug dealers now. I've never looked back.

I don’t think I ever interfaced with a weed dealer, always had a buddy getting it. Figured it was the best way to keep my nose clean, and at the height of my pothead days, I was the only one with a somewhat steady cash flow, so I’d front my pals til they got paid out at their bouncer or bartending gigs.

When I was 17 I'd be the chosen one to go to the local dealer's place to buy weed. Her name was "The Fat Lady" and she was ENORMOUS. Always a weird feeling of fear and excitement going in there, sitting down, having a chat, saying no to whatever else she was offering, just after a stick.

The final time I went there her 14 year old (or so) daughter met me at the door and that was it for me. Never went back. Shit was fucked up.
